Important factors to consider when remodeling your bathroom.

The place that makes your days better and brighter and keeps you clean is in need for some remodeling; yes, that is your bathroom. Here are some important factors to keep in mind as you set the changes and repairs into place.

The first thing to consider is whether you are looking at just fixing a couple cosmetic areas, like the paint, tile, or trimming. On the other hand if you are looking at doing a great deal of ream remodeling, this room however small will need more professional help than any other room.

Remodeling your bathroom is a time when you can use all your creativity to create a aura of luxurious relaxation, or what ever your mind feels a bathroom should be.

Now is the time to make a plan of what, how much, and whom you want to go with for your remodeling. This plan should include several areas that will be part of the completion of your beautiful bathroom.

After you have gathered the information, you need to start your bathroom-remodeling project you can design a budget that will help keep you on track financially. You can do this with a couple different tools.

First: call and get bids from any contractors you will be hiring
Second: review the cost of the paints, tiles, fixture, cabinets, etc. you will need.
Third: include the time it will take you from home in the case that you have a single bathroom and will need to stay with friends, or a hotel, when the drying and setting need to happen
Fourth: there are many tools on the Internet for calculating, checking out samples and getting a basic idea of the costs you will be incurring

There are job estimators, message boards, question and answer sites, and product showcases. There are also help centers and magazines or how to books at your local hardware supply store.

At the end of the evaluation process, you will choose the contractor you want to go with, be ready to answer some questions and make some choices.

Often times it is hard to know when you will need a professional contractor or if it is something, you can do yourself.
Many things you can do that do not require a contractor, from mold to water pressure, to painting and tiles.

Some simple ideas that help with remodeling are as follows:

1. Mold: if there is mold that forms on your walls and tub, it is usually due to lack of ventilation in the bathroom. Put in a vent when you are doing the remodeling, it is much less expensive then repairing from damage.
2. Paint: when you are choosing the paint for your bathroom, use a couple different colors, one that is lighter and one that is darker. Also, repaint your bathroom with latex paint. Latex paint has an ingredient that helps prevent mildew.
3. Sweaty toilet: for the sweating toilet that drips water down and ruins the floor you could always try this: the sweat is actually condensation, caused by cold water chilling the tank, which in turn draws moisture from the warm bathroom air. To stop this, purchase a kit available at a good home improvement or hardware store that allows you to mix a small amount of warm water with that going into the toilet tank. Problem
4. Slow water pressure: is another area that is something you can look at fixing when you are doing your bathroom remodeling. Corroded and clogged pipes are the main cause for low water pressure. In many older homes, roots of trees affect the water pressure also, and other blocking objects, like grounds shifting.
The corrosion primarily builds up behind restrictions in the pipe, such as the angle valves under the sinks and the shower or bath valves.
To repair, shut off the water to the house and remove the valves. Use two pipe wrenches, one to turn the valve and the other to prevent the pipe from turning. Once the valves are off, you will be able to identify the blockage material in the pipe. Clear it with a screwdriver and hammer, and clean it out the best you can. Reconnect the valves and run water to flush out any debris.
If the issue is in the piping outside or is extreme, you will likely have to hire a contractor to do the repair.
5. Fix floor tiles: You can start with removing any broken or loose tiles. If you are doing a complete change then you will remove them all. Evaluate the wood under the tile. If it is still in good shape than you can keep it, however if there is damage, it will be much more effective to remove the rotten wood. There is a concrete, and sheetrock mixed board called Duracrete that you can use to replace the wood and will help with any future water damager.
When you start with just replacing a few tiles, check to see if the adjoining ones are also loose, scrape out the grout around them and then carefully pry them out, too. Slip a narrow putty knife under them to break loose any remaining mastic. Scrape the underside of the tiles and the underlayment to remove old mastic, then put fresh mastic on the underlayment and press the tiles into place. Allow the mastic to dry for 24 hours and then re-grout the tiles.

What ever you need to repair, use all the tools available and remember to use your creativity. A beautiful bathroom will be your joy every morning.
