Indoor gardening basics

If you are into outdoor gardening, then you might want to have an indoor garden as well! Outdoor gardeners often turn to indoor gardening as well, particularly because you can grow flowers and vegetables all year long when you do indoor gardening! Here are a couple of indoor gardening basics, so that you can have a successful and healthy indoor garden!

- Water and light: Even though you are gardening indoors, the basic needs for your plants, flowers, and vegetables are going to be basically the same. The plants will still need to be watered and given light, which are the same things that outdoor plants need. You will still need to read the instructions for the plants that you want to grow, and make sure that you are giving them the correct amount of water - see if the soil for your plant should stay relatively damp, for example. In addition, you will need to make sure that your plant gets the light that it needs. This light should either come from the sun or some type of growing lamp.
- Control your garden environment as needed: One of the basic things that you need to know about indoor gardening is that you are in complete control of your plants' growing environment. You will be able to make sure that your plants get the right amount of humidity, light, temperature, humidity, and soil so that their growing environment is perfect for them! Some things that you might need to purchase in order to better control the environment are a heater or a humidifier, depending on the type of plants that you decide to grow.
- Space: One of the other basic things that you need to take into consideration when indoor gardening is space. Again, this often can depend on the type of plants that you are going to grow. If you want to control the humidity and temperature well indoors, then you might want to use a space like a closed or basement for your indoor garden. You also will want to make sure that you have enough windows to allow for a lot of sunlight. If you don't have rooms for a lot of sunlight, then you will need to make sure that you have enough space in order to use "growing lamps" or HID lights well. In addition, you should also take into consideration if your space has carpet or a lot of draperies. If this is the case, then you will want to make sure that you have plastic trays or drop cloths for your garden so that you will not have a lot of moisture damage.
- Keep your lamps dry: If you decide to use HID or "growing lamps" for your indoor garden, one of the basic things that you will need to do is keep your lamp dry. Hot growing lamps can burst and break if they are exposed to even the smallest amount of water. In addition, make sure that your bulbs and lamps are positioned correctly so that you will not be in danger of having a fire hazard in your indoor garden!
- Use reflective material for more light: While gardening indoors, you can use reflective material to bring more light into your gardening space. Using reflective material will help to increase the amount of energy that your plants receive, and it also means that you won't have to waste electricity and bring extra lamps into the space!
- Fans: Another aspect you might want to include in your indoor garden is ventilation with fans. This can help to bring in fresh air for your plants, particularly if the space has gotten too hot or too humid. However, you will want to make sure that you have oscillating fans in your indoor garden space, so that the soil doesn't dry out and the plants don't get windburn.
