Keeping grass lush and green
Water: A lawn that does not get sufficient water is going to die. However, a lawn that is overwatered is also going to die. So, one of the best things you can do to keep your grass lush and green is figure out a watering schedule that provides ample water without drowning the grass. If you do not want to figure that out by trial and error, a great way to learn how much water your grass needs is to do a little research online. If you know what grass type you have, and the average temperature in your area, you can usually find out how many minutes a day or week you should be watering. This is ideal if you have a sprinkler system, as it can then be set to the specifications for your grass type. If you want to get stronger grass, it is important to encourage the roots to grow deeper into the soil. The way you do this is water them less frequently, but well when you do. Doing this makes your lawn more drought and disease resistant.

Kill weeds: A grass lawn just can't look green and lush if it is full of weeds. There are many do it yourself sprays out there that will kill things like dandelions. Some of the more popular brands are Weed B Gon and Orro. Of course, if you find that this is not working, another option is to remove all the weeds, root and all, by hand using a trowel. This is usually way to time consuming, and so most people opt to hire a professional weed killing company to come in and spray if the home variety does not work as well.
Use fertilizers: A lush green grass is much easier to obtain when you use a fertilizer. Fertilizer, if properly allocated, gives your grass just want it needs to survive and thrive. Fertilizer can contain some chemicals, so make sure that you do not over-fertilize, as this can kill your grass. Again, to figure out the proper amount, you will want to do some research, read the instructions, and apply accordingly.
Seed heavily: Even if you have sod, if you want it to be lush and green, a great thing you can do is seed it heavily. One of the things you need to do is seed heavily in the spring. The reason this works so well is that good coverage makes it harder for weeds to grow.
Don't mow too short: If you mow your grass too short, it can become sick. Sick grass is an invitation for weeds to grow, dandelions especially.
