Keeping your lawn green and weed free all summer

Keeping your lawn green and weed free all summer can be so difficult. There are often patches that come up no matter what you do. You don't want to spend a whole Saturday outside fixing your lawn and making it look good again, so here are some ideas to help keep your lawn looking great.
A great start to the summer always helps. When you start seeing your grass again and start the whole lawn taking care of practice again, make sure your sprinklers are getting everywhere on your lawn. Turn them all on and just look for any spots that may be getting missed. You can stand on your porch and look down or walk around the yard. If there are some spots that are being missed, try playing around with the sprinkler system to get it to water those spots it's missing. If you remember from last year which spots needed attention, then fix those too.

You might need to go to a home store to get a new sprinkler head that will reach further or in a different direction. The people that work there are usually very helpful and know a lot about how to make it work better so don't be afraid to ask them!
Use some sort of a weed pretreatment for your grass. If you are worried about the environment, don't be because there are a few newer products out there that only kill the weeds and not the bugs. The pretreatment will help from the start and will make your life a little easier. Use one that is meant to last throughout the summer and one that will keep weeds out for a while.
Throughout the summer you will probably have to still get rid of some weeds. Get to them as soon as possible. You don't want to end up with a huge patch of weeds when all you had to do was get rid of the one that was the problem.
If your lawn is starting to turn a greenish blue color or if you walk on it and there are still footprints after about an hour then your lawn needs more water. Water it during the early morning or night time when it is dark outside. If you water it during the day, only a small fraction of the water actually gets to the grass because the rest of the water evaporates into the hot air.
If you have trees in your yard, don't plant grass up to the roots. Use some sort of mulch or other material. Having the trees and the grass so close makes them compete for water. If you have to have them close, within two feet of each other, make sure the area gets watered more.
Keeping your lawn green and weed free throughout the summer is a hard task. You can't just do one thing and expect it to last throughout the summer, but these tips will help. They will make sure that you have the best lawn on the street and without hours and hours of work every week maintaining it.
