Keeping your tub sparkling white

Few people love to clean their bathrooms. In fact, most people will say it is their least favorite chore when it comes to doing housework. However, a bathroom that is not cleaned often will build up grime, mold, and bacteria. This is especially true for the tub.

Keeping your tub sparkling white does not require a lot of effort, but it does require consistency. The following are some tips for keeping your tub sparkling white.

Clean the tub daily
You don't have to give your tub a deep cleaning every time you use it, but it's a good idea to keep it clean each day by doing the following:

  • When using the shower or taking a bath, make sure you run the ventilation fan or leave a door open (as long as it doesn't lead into a public area of the house.) Too much humidity causes mildew and mold, which can make your tub harder to keep clean.

  • Rinse the tub after each shower or bath. This is particularly true if more than a couple people are using it, and soap scum tends to accumulate.

  • Clean all hair away from the drain and bottom of the tub. When hair piles up, it clogs your drain and causes a huge, sometimes costly mess to fix.

  • Wipe the tub off. There are a number of great commercial cleaning wipes that work well for this. They clean and disinfect at the same time. Clorox wipes are a good way to keep the tub clean after each use.

  • Spray a no-scrub shower cleaner. There are several cleaning brands that make no-scrub bathroom cleaners. With these cleaners, you simply spray down the walls and floor of the tub and let it set, then rinse. There are also no-rinse cleaners. This will help prevent soap scum build up and leave your tub sparkling white.

Clean thoroughly once a week
While you should be maintaining the cleanliness of the tub each day, you can keep it sparkling white by doing a deep cleaning once a week. This includes:

  • Remove everything from the tub, including shower caddies, shampoo bottles, and so forth until there is nothing in it or on the edges.

  • Wipe up all the hair from the walls and floor of the tub.

  • Use a heavy-duty bathroom cleaner and spray or apply it all over the tub. (Make sure you are in a well-ventilated area. Keep windows open, fans running, and the door open while you clean.) Make sure you read all of the directions first. Some cleaners will make you leave the solution on for a few minutes, and deeper stains will require this as well. You can keep your tub sparkling white by making sure it has bleach in it. Soft Scrub with Bleach is a great product for keeping the tub white.

  • Using a scrub brush instead of a sponge, thoroughly scrub all over the walls, sides, and floor of tub.

  • Don't use a harsh cleanser on fixtures, as it could discolor them. Wipe those off with a rag.

  • Rinse all of the cleanser from the tub.

A sparkling white tub not only looks great, but is more sanitary as well. The above tips will help you to keep your tub sparkling white.
