Kitchen essentials, what every kitchen must have!

Everybody knows that every kitchen needs the major appliances, but what some people do not know is how to stock their kitchen. Whether you are newlyweds about to move into your first home or single and moving into your first apartment you should consider this list of items that every kitchen needs. Even though you may not be a gourmet chef and plan on fixing quick and easy meals most of these items will be needed for any type of cooking, but if you are planning on doing some major cooking you can look into other specialty items to help make cooking easier.

Here is a list of basic cookware items that every kitchen needs.
 One quart sauce pan with lid
 Three quart sauce pan with lid
 Four to six quart Dutch Oven pot, ensure that it has a lid, while you might not always need a lid you should have one on hand just in case.
 Six to eight inch skillet
 Twelve inch skillet with a lid or cover
 Muffin pan
 9x5x3 loaf pan
 13x9 and an 8x8 baking dish
 Two 8 or 9 inch round baking pans
 Roasting pan with a lid
 Pizza pan
 Non-stick frying pan
 Cookie sheets
 One or two casserole dishes
 Stock pot, this can be used for boiling pasta or making home-made soup

Here is a list of basic utensils that every kitchen must have.
 Set of mixing bowls, glass bowls are better, but plastic or metal will still work
 Set of measuring cups, these are used to measure dry ingredients
 Clear glass or plastic measuring cup, this one is used for measuring liquids
 Wooden spoons
 Paring knife
 Serrated knife
 Chef's knife
 Carving knife
 Meat mallet
 Long-handled fork and spoon
 Slotted Spoon
 Tongs
 Spatulas, rubber or plastic work best for the kitchen, but you will need a metal one if you use a BBQ
 Basting brush
 Measuring spoons
 Vegetable peeler
 Steak knives
 Bread knife
 Ice cream scoop, unless you want to bend all of your regular spoons
 Kitchen scissors
 Garlic press
 Can opener
 Grater, for cheese or anything else you need to grate
 Wire whisk
 Electric mixer
 Sifter
 Strainer
 Cutting boards, one for meats and one for everything else
 Rolling pin
 Wire cooling racks
 Meat and oven thermometer
 Kitchen Timer
 Set of silverware, how big of a set you need depends on how many people you want to serve at one time

Here is a list of storage products that you will need to store food:
 Storage containers, get a variety of shapes and sizes, Glad and Ziploc have reusable storage containers that come in a multi-pack
 Canisters that you can use to store sugar, flour, coffee, etc.
 Foil
 Freezer bags (large and small) and/or containers, Glad and Ziploc Storage containers are also made for the freezer
 Plastic wrap, keep in mind you are going to want something that is spill proof, so buying the cheapest brand is probably not a good idea
 Paper towels
 Plastic bags, large and small
 Juice or tea pitchers
 Teakettle

Other items that your kitchen must have:
 Set of dishes, you are going to need something to put the finished product on
 Kitchen towels and washcloths
 Napkins
 Garbage can and garbage liners
 Pot holders
 Cookbooks
 Spices
