Make sure you do not let dandelions infest your grass. Dandelions are one of the most interesting weeds out there. They look cool to kids. They even put a bit of color out there. However they are weeds. They do ruin your lawn. So whether you take them serious or not, it is important to make sure that they do not infest your grass.
Depending on what the stages in growth of dandelions you have in your yard, will probably affect the result you will need to use. There are simple things for removing one or so plants, to the more drastic measures it would take to remove a full infestation. Though, do not give up. It will get better.

Do you have a small growth of dandelion plants?
If that is the case, then you will likely be able to go to the plant with a small shovel and dig them out root and all. Just taking off the top will not do it. You can also pull them out, if you make sure to get the entire root. This is where you will find that the return will irritate you.
If you go out and dig up 10 dandelion plants, and you think you are home free, you could be wrong. The reason is that dandelions are one of the hardiest types of perennials. They can survive year after year. They also can grow to rather large sizes.

In this case, digging may seem a little more work than you planned. Also, you really are not sure that you want to make that many holes in the grass. Understandably this is where many people will turn to a little back home lawn care.
You can do what is called poaching the weeds. You take boiling water out and poor it over the plant. This does not always work, but it will not kill the grass around the plant if you just poor on the dandelion. That way you are not pulling the grassroots out of place with the roots of the plant.

Well then, you will need to move to more drastic measures. There are a couple options for this. You can do a mulching method. This is where you will pretty much smother the weeds with mulch. Then they cannot grow as well.
You will put a piece of cardboard over the top of the plant, with the mulch over the top of that. If you are worried about the look, you can always spray the cardboard green. Then it will show a little less.
As you try some of these different forms of dandelion removal. There are also week killers out there that work well. I know this is hard for some. However, there are times that drastic measures are needed to save your lawn.
If you start early in the year, you can use the Scott's weed and feed or another product like this. They work well to stop the weeds before they start. Try it a couple times the first month, and I think you will see significant improvement.
