Measuring tricks, you need to know about

When you are working on projects around the house, you will need to be measuring a variety of things. You will have to measure the depth of holes, the lengths of cabinets, the width of things, and many other measurements.
The hardest part about measuring around the home is getting accurate measurements the first time around. More often than not people have to measure the same thing repeatedly because they get different results the first two times that they measure it. Alternatively, if they only measure it once and then try to make the repair they have found out the hard way that their measurement is just a little bit off. The best thing that you can do to help ensure the accuracy of your measurements is to learn about the various tricks that other people use.
Here are some tips you can follow to ensure you are getting the right measurements for your projects at home.

Tip one:
One thing that you can do when measuring the depth of a hole is to use a bolt and two nuts for finding the measurement. You will need to place both nuts onto the bolt, one right after the other, do not twist them onto the very top of the bolt though. What you will need to do is twist the bolt into the hole until you have reached the bottom of the hole. How this works is that the first nut locks the bolt into place and the second bolt shows you how deep the hole is.
Tip two:
If you are trying to determine what the diameter for a piece of wood or something similar you can use the traditional method, which can take twice as long or you can use a trick to get the result in half the time, no mathematics involved. All you have to do is place two perfect squares next the circular object you are measuring and place a ruler underneath the bottom of all three objects. The diameter of the circular object is going to be the same as the distance between the inside edges of the two squares.
Tip three:
Some of your projects are going to require that you have a perfect square. The hardest way to measure, a perfect square is to go through and measure each individual side. To easily determine if you have a perfect square all you need to do is measure the square on each diagonal and then compare the diagonals. For it to be a perfect square each diagonal must be the same, so compare them to see if they have the same measurements.
Tip four:
If you are going to need to figure out the diameter on a type of column, which means you won't be able to measure the diameter because you cannot take the column apart to access the top of bottom, you can still find the diameter.
To find the diameter in this case what you will need to do is take two framing squares and clamp them together, best way to do it is to place the framing squares around the cylinder shaped object. Once you have gotten the framing squares in place you can figure out the diameter.
The thing to remember with these tricks is that they are designed to provide you with a faster and more accurate method of measuring. The faster you are at measuring the less amount of time it is going to take you to complete your projects. The more accurate the measurements are the fewer materials you will be wasting and the less amount of time you will need to spend redoing what you have already done.
