Once summer time comes around people are ready to head outdoors to start barbequing. The main reason for this is that the summer weather is perfect for this type of outdoor cookout, and it gives people a reason to invite friends over and socialize. In order to invite friends and family over your number one priority has to be making your friends and family comfortable and to ensure that they are well taken care of. The best thing that you can do to make sure your guests are comfortable and that they will enjoy themselves is to make sure that you yard is prepared for a summer full of barbeques.
Here are the steps you should follow to prepare your backyard for summer barbeques.
You will need to take your outdoor furniture out of storage. Before you even think about setting the outdoor furniture up for a barbeque, you will need to take the proper steps to clean off the outdoor furniture. If you don't have any outdoor furniture that is the first thing that you will need to get before you have any barbeques. Outdoor furniture, even if it is just lawn chairs, is important for barbeques because your guests will need a place to sit so they won't have to sit on the lawn.
Make sure that before people come over that you pick up after your pet in the backyard. You will also need to dispose of it so that it is nowhere near your guests. If you don't have a pet, this step can be skipped.
Mow and edge your lawn so that everything looks nice and neat. You will also need to cut back and trees or shrubs that might get in the way of your guests. With trees, be sure to cut off the lower branches so that your guests are not hitting their heads when they walk under the tree. Having branches no lower than six feet is a good ground rule to follow.
Set up a canopy in the yard. The canopy doesn't have to be very big, especially if you have a covered patio area. If you do not have a covered patio area, you will want a decent sized canopy so that you can provide your guests with plenty of shade. You can also place your ice chest under the canopy. You want to place the canopy close to where you will be barbequing, but not over where you are barbequing because of the smoke.
If you have kids, you probably already have a play area set up for them outside, but if you don't and your friends and family have kids, you might want to think about setting up a kid's play area. When setting up the play area try to keep it away from the barbeque grill for safety purposes. You should also try setting it up in a shaded area so that the kids are out of the summer sun as much as possible.
Provide your guests with pest and insect repellant, but not the sprays. You will want to invest in a bug zapper or some candles that are designed to repel bugs. These items will help keep unwanted bugs from raiding your barbeque and bothering your guests.
Make sure you have a garbage can or something that can be used for garbage so your guests can throw away their plates, if they are paper plates. You can also have a separate can set up for recycling bottles or cans. Just let your guests know ahead of time where everything is located. Keep the garbage can and recycling bins away from the food.
