Here are some tips to keep in mind to help you prevent pests in your garden.
Tip one:
If you have children or pets you will want to make sure that, you buy a pest control substance that is safe around kids and pets. This is important because sometimes children will ingest the poison that is designed for the pests, which can make the kids ill or even kill them. Most of the time it is pets that eat the pest control substances because they are outside unsupervised more than children are. Pay attention to what you are buying and make sure that you ask the clerk at the store if you are unsure whether the bait or poison is safe to use around kids and pets. For example, some bait cannot be left out around kids or pets, while others have to have time to dry before they are considered safe.
Tip two:
Before trying anything, you will want to try to use pest prevention. The reason for this is that if you can prevent the pests by following a few simple ideas then you won't have to worry about using any kind of poison or trap to get rid of the pests. Some things that you can do are to remove the food source, water source and their shelter. For example, mosquitoes breed in standing water so make sure that there is no standing water in your garden.
Tip three:
If you are using pesticide in your garden never use more than what is suggested on the manufacturer's label to control the pests. This is never better because you are spraying more than what is needed on your plants, which can harm your plants or if it is, a vegetable garden can soak into the vegetables that you will be eating later. If using pesticides for a vegetable garden make sure that it is an outdoor pesticide that is safe for use around fruits and vegetables.
Tip four:
Never switch the containers that the pesticides are in. The reason for this is that you can actually forget what is in the container and that you switched the ingredients because you needed more room and follow the wrong directions when it comes to spraying the pesticide in the garden. You could also end up using something that was meant for indoors rather than outdoors, etc. You also don't ever want to use pesticide containers for anything else, regardless of if you wash them out. The reason for this is that even if you wash them out they can still contain traces of pesticide residue and can poison you or contaminate whatever you are storing.
Tip five:
You should also always try to buy the pre-mixed pesticides. This will ensure that the pesticide comes in its own container and you won't need to worry about the proper mixing guidelines nor will you have to worry about storing the chemicals. If you don't want to buy the pre-mixed pesticides, the next best choice is the pesticide that hooks up to your hose because it mixes itself as you are spraying, no need to worry about measuring and mixing the chemicals.
