Quick and easy ways to tackle clutter

caulkinggun31932359.jpgTaking on a whole house full of clutter can definitely be a daunting task, especially if you feel like you are not particularly gifted in the organization department. Fortunately, you do not have to be the master or organization, nor do you have to be particularly skilled at cleaning the house in order to tackle clutter. All you need is a plan!

Start by having an idea or a vision for what you want each room in your house to look like. Chances are that room looks clean. So, before you start thinking about new furniture, start thinking about the role that organization is going to play in getting your rooms to look like what you imagine they can be. Be specific about what needs to be done to each room in your house. Maybe your TV room is overrun with videos? You can start by writing down that you want to alphabetize your collection or find a shelving unit that is better suited to your storage needs. Go through each room and write down the small tasks that each room requires in order to become better organized.

Defining what organization means to you can say a lot about why you have and have not been able to overcome the obstacles in the way of tackling your clutter. Some people define organization as being able to find what you need while others simply want things to look neat and tidy. You may want to ask yourself what things are absolutely necessary in the room or why do you have a problem with clutter in the first place? Talk with the other members of your household to determine what goals are present for everyone involved with the clutter problem.

Chances are that if you have clutter you are going to have to sort through your things and get rid of some stuff. Donating the thing that you don't use or don't want any more is a good way to help the community and can make parting with something you value easier because it is not just being thrown in the garbage. As you are de-cluttering the spaces in your home, it may be helpful to designate certain times just for de-cluttering. Many times the reason why we fail to get organized is because we simply don't have the time. Make the time to tackle clutter, even if it is only 20-30 minutes a day.

Tackling clutter in the kitchen is particularly challenging. The kitchen is the heart of the home, this means that often times it is also the kitchen at the heart of the clutter. Start by uncovering your fridge. A crowded fridge can add to the clutter of the room much more than you would think. Try to consolidate any information you may have on your fridge so that if you need something like a phone number it is still accessible to you but that accessibility is also much more convenient.

Finding containers to fit your organizational needs can be one of the best things that you can do to tackle the clutter. Containers can even add to the look of your home if you take your time to carefully measure the space and size of the container and find a container that matches your design sense. It can be fun to put something away in a container that is sleek and classy. Baskets, boxes, and even shelves can make great places for storing those things that you just can't live without.

Take a few minutes each day to gather your thoughts and prepare yourself for the day ahead of you. Commit to being able to stick with the clutter changes that you have made. Spend 30 minutes in the morning working on larger organizational projects. This way you will have already taken care of your clutter issues in the morning and you can spend your day focusing on your other plans.
