Rules for cleaning

brooms19191418-1.jpgIn today's society, most families have two working parents; this is just so the family can survive. With two working parents, the rules for cleaning have changed because one parent is not at home all day to manage the home. For working households, the thought of spring-cleaning becomes a nightmare because there just isn't enough time in the day to get everything done.

Here are some rules for you to follow to help make spring-cleaning easier.

Rule one: Throw things out
Most people have a hard time throwing things out, even if the item is worn out and beyond repair. You should also be willing to throw out items that are in good repair so that somebody else can use them. A good rule to follow when it comes to throwing things out is if you haven't used the item within the last year, you should get rid of it. If you hang onto items that you are not using, including clothes, kitchen items, appliances, toys, etc you are only adding to the clutter in your home that has to be cleaned.

Rule two: Watch what you are buying
You do not want to buy items that are going to cause you anxiety. For example, you do not want to buy a car that you are going to feel compelled to wash and wax every weekend. The reason for this is that you will feel the need to put extra work into your cleaning. Instead, you want to buy items that are easy to care for and do not require that extra thorough cleaning.

Rule three: Narrow your focus
Having two parents who both work full time means that there is little time, for the house to be cleaned from top to bottom because nobody is home much during the work week. Rather than trying to clean the entire house in one night, you can do a variety of small chores throughout the week. If you spend five to ten minutes, cleaning before work or after work you will get that much more done throughout the week. For example, clean the bathroom sink or wipe down the tub before you head off to work and finish the rest of the bathroom that night when you get home.

Rule four: Maximize your storage space

Maximize the storage space that your home already has. You can also go about creating more storage space in places that none existed before, such as under the stairs or add a shelf to the top of your closets. By maximizing your storage space, you will be able to reduce the amount of clutter inside your home, which will make cleaning easier. To organize all of the stuff that needs to be stored you will need to invest in storage items, such as hooks for closets, bins, hangers, boxes, shelves, etc. Adding these to your storage spaces will allow you to organize and store your clutter, but you will also be able to access it when it is needed.

Rule five: Supplies easily accessible
You will need to make sure that all of your cleaning supplies are in an easy to reach location. The reason for this is that you are going to be more likely to clean and do certain chores if your cleaning supplies are in a central location. The ideal spot to store your cleaning supplies is within grabbing distance of the area that needs to be cleaned. For example, do not store toilet bowl cleaner underneath the kitchen sink, you will want to have it under the bathroom sink or in a cupboard near the bathroom. Where you store your cleaning supplies is going to depend on safety, which means up high if children are present in the house.
