Take control of all of your cupboards
One of the most important things you can do when you organize your kitchen cupboards is to take control of them. This means that you will go through all of your stuff-food, appliances, cooking utensils, and so forth-and organize it. Sort it into groups. Sort by type, first of all. All pastry tools should go together, for example. Store spoons together. Then take out the small appliances that you use on a regular basis. Take out some of the utensils that are handy to always have out-a couple spatulas of different sizes, a few wooden spoons, your spaghetti server, a pancake turner, a cake tester. Put these in a container on your counter or on your oven so that it will be easy to access them.
Put the appliances that you use on a regular basis on the counter, as long as it won't create clutter. If it will create clutter or if you find them to be unattractive, then put them in a cupboard that is easy to access and that you won't have to dig through to find them. Don't put them under the sink, for example.

Next, go through each and every cupboard that you have. Organize the cupboard itself. Things that you don't use very often go in the back, things that you need regularly go in the front. When you reorganize the cupboard, wash it thoroughly. Then buy baskets and other small containers. Keep things in the containers. Group things together. For example, if you're cleaning the cupboard under your sink, then you should put all soaps together. Put all of your polishing tools and supplies in another one. Then you can put all of your washcloths, dishcloths, and sponges in another basket.
Now, the other thing that you need to remember about organizing your kitchen cupboards it to keep them organized. Even if you're in a hurry, you need to make sure that you put things back right where they go. Make sure that your kids put things back where they go. Take stock of how things are once every few months, and straighten up and put things back where they belong.
