Do you want to garden, but you don't feel like you have a lot of space outside? If you live in a large city and still want to garden, you should try indoor gardening. Indoor gardening is a very popular hobby that many people enjoy. There are a lot of pros to indoor gardening, but there also are some cons as well. Here is a run down of the pros and cons of indoor gardening:

  • PRO - You can have flowers, vegetables, or fruit all year long! One of the greatest pros for indoor gardening is that you can grow plants all year long. This way, you will be able to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables in the middle of winter! If you plant your garden on a time scale, you can continuously have a plant that is ripe in your garden, ensuring that you will always have something fresh on your table!
  • PRO - Indoor gardening does not require a yard: Many urban and apartment residents love gardening, but they feel limited because they do not have a yard with a lot of space. However, with indoor gardening, you can still plant and garden, even if you are in a large city!
  • PRO - Indoor gardening makes great decoration: Another great benefit for indoor gardening is its beauty and aesthetic value. Some people prefer to have indoor gardens because it makes their home more colorful and beautiful.
  • PRO - Indoor gardening can make the air cleaner: Some people argue that indoor gardening is great because it can help to improve the quality of air in their living space. Plants take CO2 and turn it into oxygen, and some people feel like there is more clean air and oxygen in their homes because of their indoor gardens. If you want to have the air cleaner, you should try planting and indoor garden just for this reason!
  • CON - Indoor gardening can be expensive: One of the downsides to indoor gardening is that it can be more expensive than gardening outdoors. For example, if you need to bring more light into your indoor garden space, you will probably have to buy some indoor growing lamps. Depending on how many growing lamps you purchase, you could find yourself spending a lot more money than you planned on! Make sure that you can handle the expenses of indoor gardening before you get yourself stuck in a difficult situation!
  • CON - Indoor garden crops can be less healthy than outdoor garden crops: Concerns have been expressed that indoor garden crops are not as healthy as plants that are grown outdoors. Many of these claims are because indoor garden crops are not always exposed to natural sunlight - instead, these plants receive their energy from artificial sources, which may not prove to be as healthy. In addition, others find that the plants are not as healthy because their environment is so controlled, which ultimately makes for less healthy crops.
  • CON - Indoor gardens can cause damage to interiors: If you are not careful, indoor gardens can cause damage to the interior of homes. For example, if you have carpet or draperies in your indoor garden setting, your carpet and draperies can be ruined because of the moisture required for your plants. Many people have been inconvenienced and forced to throw household items away because of their indoor gardens. Make sure that your home can handle the extra moisture and other requirements for your indoor garden, so that you will not have to throw away any damaged belongings!

As you can see, there are many pros and cons to indoor gardening. It really is up to you to decide if the pros of indoor gardening outweigh all of the pros! If you still have questions, you might want to speak with someone who has an indoor garden, or speak with a customer service rep from your local gardening store.
