Tips for cleaning dirt and grime off of walls

Five tips for cleaning dirt and grime off of walls. When you are trying to clean the dirt and grime off of walls, it is a bit of a chore to actually get them clean. The reason is that paint can have texture, wallpaper, or colored paint. You want to get the walls clean, but do not want to remove the paint or wallpaper you have covering the under wall.

So in order to do that, there are a few tips you can follow to get your walls clean without causing damage to the covering surface.

Tip #1

Start out by purchasing a few good supplies from your local shopping store. The best things to try are a magic eraser, some bleach, a pair of gloves for cleaning and some good wash clothes and a scrub brush. In addition to these, you will want some type of cover to lay out on the floor, or other areas that a little bleach water would damage. This should be less than $10 total and can be used over and over.

Tip #2

Now you are at home, looking at the walls you want to clean. Sometimes you need to look at one wall at a time, because there are different colors or textures you will be working with.

Prepare your area with some type of cover over carpet, or other areas that can be damaged by the cleaning solutions.

Tip #3

Now for your white walls, simply mix 1-part bleach with 3 parts water. Then simply use a white cloth to wipe off any marks, dirt or grime. If the bleach water mixture is not removing the grime enough, then you can take out your scrub brush or magic eraser and focus on the area of the grime or dirt.

Tip #4

If you are working with an area that has colors, or wallpaper, you will want to use a different type of cleaning solution. This can be a 1-part vinegar and 3-part water mixture or your favorite cleaning solution.

Tip #5

The key is to not damage the wall covering by using a scraper, or rubbing until the paint is removed or the wallpaper is damaged. Often times spraying the solution on the soiled area, and then letting is sit a minute or two will make it easier to remove the marks.

Here are a couple of hints to help:

1. Use a circular motion or a back and forth motion to clean the dirt and grime. If there is any texture to the surface, changing directions can help to remove areas that your cloth cannot normally hit.
2. If you are using a scrub brush for the harder areas, do not cause too much friction with a constant back and forth motion.
3. Start from the top of the wall and move down. This way the dirty water and cleaning solution will be moved down and not leave streaks on the walls.
4. Wear clothing that you do not mind if it gets bleach, cleaner or stains from the dirt and grime on it.

These are the best ways to get dirt and grime off of your walls. The best way to keep the dirt and grime from building up is to clean the walls often, and immediately if there are any types of spills or dirt. The sooner it is cleaned, the less likely it will be difficult to clean up later.
