Tips for cleaning hard water
If you live in an area of the country that has hard water you are already very aware of what hard water is and how hard it can be to clean. One of the best things that you can do to help cut back on the amount of time you spend cleaning those hard water stains is to buy a water softener system for your house, because hard water does not allow cleaning chemicals to work properly. But buying a water softener is not right for everybody nor will it get rid of the stains that are already there.

Tip one:
One thing that you can do to remove those ugly hard water stains on your shower door is to prevent them from appearing in the first place. What this means is that if you know you live in an area that has hard water you should do certain things to prevent those stains from appearing. One thing that you can do is to wipe down the doors and walls of your shower either with a squeegee or a towel so that the hard water does not have time to set.
Tip two:
If you already have hard water stains on your glass shower doors one thing that you can try doing is to spray some toilet bowl cleaner onto the shower door, make sure that you spray the entire door. Then get a very soft scouring pad, if you use a hard scouring pad you will end up damaging the glass on the shower door, with the soft scouring pad you are going to want to wipe down the entire shower door. Once you have done the whole door you will need to rinse the door with cool water and then dry the door. Your glass door will be streaked so you will also want to use window cleaner to remove the streaks.
Tip three:
Another thing that you can do when cleaning hard water is to buy some kind of rinse aid for your dishwasher. You can buy the kind that refills into the dishwasher or you can buy the kind that hangs from the upper rack. This should eliminate the spots that are left on your dishes from hard water. But if you still have spots what you are going to need to do is to turn up the water temperature and use the heated drying cycle, you can also use dishwashing detergent that is designed to reduce spotting.
Tip four:
Another great way to clean hard water is to use a solution of lemon juice and vinegar, but do not use this if you are going to be cleaning anything marble because the acid will end up etching the marble surface. But what you want to do is to mix one cup of vinegar with one tablespoon of lemon juice. With a wash cloth you are going to want to apply the solution to the hard water stains and then allow it to set for a few minutes, then rinse the area thoroughly and dry.
Tip five:
You can also use professional or store bought cleaning products to help clean hard water. When buying these products you need to make sure that they include phosphoric and sulfuric acid, basically what happens is that the acid will eat away the stains, similar to the acid in the lemon juice. But whenever you are using these products be sure to use gloves and protective eye gear, as well as being in a well ventilated area.
