You may be tired of looking at the same cabinets in your kitchen or even bathrooms all the time. Replacing the cabinets is a costly and time consuming job. There are other options to give your kitchen or bathroom cabinets a new look. Here are some tips for giving cabinets a fresh face without replacing them.

Refacing your cabinets is an option to look at when trying to give our cabinets a new look. The process for refacing your cabinet involves taking the fronts off your drawers and doors off and replacing them with another type of wood veneer. You can hire someone to do the refacing for you or you can do it yourself. To reface your cabinets all cabinet drawer and door fronts including the hardware need to be removed. After all the parts are taken off then a thin coat of about ¼ inch of wood or other laminate is wrapped around the cabinet doors and drawers. There is a wide variety of choices available to match the rest of the décor in the kitchen or bathroom. Once all the drawers and doors for the cabinets are finished they can be reinstalled with new hardware on the fronts to give the room a new look.

Refacing can be a good idea for a more extensive kitchen remodel. Newly refaced cabinets along with new flooring and countertops can make your kitchen or bathroom look and feel totally new. Not only can refacing give you a new look but it can also improve the durability of your kitchen cabinets by adding more years to the life of your cabinets. Refacing your cabinets in either the bathroom or kitchen can provide a dramatic difference in the look of these rooms.

You can also refinish you cabinets. There are a few ways to refinish the surface of your cabinets. You can paint them or you can strip them down to the wood and restain them for a different type of look. This is the least expensive option for creating a different look for your cabinets. You can use any color of paint either to match or compliment the rest of the room. You'd be surprised at what a little can of paint can do.

Once again you can hire someone to paint the cabinets for you or you can do it yourself. No matter which way you choose your cabinets should look different by the time you are done with them. Whether you choose to repaint your cabinets or you choose to restain your cabinets you will still need to take all the cabinet doors and drawers out. Strip off the old paint or stain and then put the doors and drawers back onto the cabinets. The looks will be different and safe you money.

Another way to give a fresh face to your cabinets without replacing them is to just take all the doors off. This may not work in all types of kitchen or bathrooms. If you think you might like the look try it for a few days before making it permanent. You can then just paint the ledges of the shelves or use doilies that are flipped over the side.

Instead of removing the doors of your cabinets you could also replace the doors with old windows that are the same dimensions. Other things to do with your cabinet doors would be to make doors out of different materials such as fabric or different woods. This will give a very different look without spending a fortune. If you already have painted doors you could try to stencil designs onto your doors or even drawers. This may take time but it will liven up your old cabinets.

There are many options available to give your cabinets a fresh face without replacing them. Look in home improvement magazines for ideas. You don't always have to replace the cabinets to make a change to your room.
