Tips for keeping your bathroom drawers clean and organized

It takes you so long to get ready in the morning, your brush isn't in the right place, not that it has a right place. Your toothpaste is stuck in the drawer because somebody dripped some in the drawer and didn't clean it up. Your bottom drawer won't open because there is too much stuff in there and so something is jamming it.

That is the bathroom of your dreams, right? Well, maybe it's just the bathroom of your reality. And that is still not a very pleasant thought. What you need it to start over, not with a new bathroom but with new ideas.

Start by taking everything out of the drawers and finding everything that belongs in the drawers. Put it all in a box and set it aside. This will be your second task to accomplish.

Clean out the drawers really good. Take them out and make sure they are clean clear to the back. Use your cleaning supplies to get all of the toothpaste off the bottom and all of the makeup colors off. Make sure you get the dirt that has collected in the corners, it's gross.

Now make your drawers look like new with a fresh layer of contact paper. If there was old paper in there it is up to you whether you take it out or just cover it up, either way works. Smooth out all of the wrinkles and you will have all new drawers.

Now go back to the box of drawer junk. It is time to separate the needed from the unnecessary. Get a garbage can and have it close by. Throw away anything that is out of date, this means makeup too. If there is anything that you tried and didn't like, throw it out, you will never decide you like it.

Get rid of free samples you will never use and all of the garbage that made it back into the drawer. If your family is anything like mine, the second a new tube of toothpaste showed up the old one got shoved back even if it wasn't gone.

Organize everything that is left into categories. If you have any medicines, it is a better idea to keep them in the kitchen. Sometimes the heat and steam from the shower can ruin them.

Now that you have only what is totally necessary and everything is grouped together, it is time to designate space. Find something to organize your stuff. This can be baskets, jars, or trays. Find the right size for your drawers and for your stuff. Now it is time to start replacing things into the right drawers.

Putting the toothpaste in a plastic tray that can come out of the drawer will save you from having a sticky drawer again. Make sure that toothpaste is the only thing in the tray to prevent spreading if there is a leak.

If you buy q-tips in large quantities then you should get a little jar full for the drawer and put the big box away somewhere else. This will give you more drawer space to work with. This works for anything you buy in bulk, find a closet you can put them in instead of the drawers.

Find a spot for each container of bathroom must-haves in the drawers and make sure the rest of the family knows what you have done. Tell them how you organized and what you expect them to do to help you keep it clean and organized. Then next time you do a deep clean there will only be half as much work for you.
