Tips for protecting your garden from pests

One of the biggest problems that you will face when growing a garden, whether it is a vegetable garden or a flower garden is pests. Pests will invade your garden and will many times destroy your garden because they will eat the plants you have in your garden or they will dig in your garden. No matter what they do the only way to protect, your garden from these pests is to learn how to stop them.
Here are some tips that you can follow to protect your garden from specific types of pests.

Number one: Cats and dogs
Many people do not consider cats and dogs to be a garden pest. They can just as easily destroy your garden as an insect can. With cats and dogs more often than not, they will dig up your flowers or chew the branches on some of the trees or flowers. The best way to keep dogs and cats out of your garden is to build a fence around your garden. If you still have a problem despite the fence, you can use chili powder in the dirt to discourage dogs and cats from digging t your flowers.
Number two: Snails and slugs
If you do not want to use chemicals or pellets to get rid of snails and slugs one thing that you can try doing is going out at night with a flashlight to collect them by hand because they only come out at night to eat the plants, during the day snails and slugs hide in moist dark places. If you do not want to collect them by hand, you can place a layer of coarse materials around the plants because their soft underside will not enjoy traveling across the rough surface. Something else that can work to remove snails and slugs is to place a shallow bowl or a saucer full of beer in your garden. They love beer, but they will drown once they enter the bowl or saucer.
Number three: Earwigs
Earwigs are an insect that you want to have in your garden because they are helpful since they eat dead leaves. They will also attack young seedlings so you want to make sure you plant carrots and dill early enough in the season so they are tough enough to withstand earwigs once they have matured. If they are causing a huge problem, you can get rid of them by placing a saucer in your garden filled with beer, soapy water, soy sauce and water, or other organic materials. You can also use toilet paper rolls filled with peanut butter to tarp the earwigs.
Number four: Ants
There are so many different varieties of ants and there are just as many suggestions for how to get rid of the ants. No matter what type of ants you have, one solution that will work is to mix boric acid with sugar to make a sticky substance. Once you have made the substance place it where the ants will find it to take back to the queen.
Number five: Deer
If you have deer that are eating your plants and fences are doing nothing to keep them out you can make a spray on solution that will work to stop them from eating your plants. What you will need to do is mix one tablespoon of liquid dish detergent with one ounce of hot sauce. Mix these with one liter of water and spray it on the plants that the deer have been eating.
Number six: Flies
To keep flies out of the house or away from certain areas the best thing you can do is to keep potted basil around the area. You can also use a citrus peel pomander to keep them at bay.
