Spot cleaning your carpets is something that you will have to do at one time or another, especially if you have kids. You don't want to spend hours cleaning the entire carpet area when there is just a small area that you need clean. Here are some tips for those times when you need to do some spot cleaning on your carpets.

First off, get to the stain as quickly as possible. The longer it stays in the harder it will be to get out. Eventually you won't be able to get it out because it will get into the deep fibers of the carpet. If you are in a hurry, just try to do something at least and then come back to it later if you absolutely have to.

If the stain is something that was wet, use a rag to blot up the liquid. Try to get as much out as you can without putting pressure on the carpet. If you put too much pressure on the stain the liquid will just soak more into the carpet.

Use a carpet cleaning solution. They come in all different kinds. But beware. They can also ruin your carpet. When you are at the store buying the cleaner, look on the back to see exactly what types of carpet it works on. If you don't know what kind of carpet you have, find out. You can go to a local carpet store or find the papers that say what type it is.

You can also use a product you have at home like good old soap and water. You might even want to use just water to help get out the stain.

Whatever type of cleaning solution you decide to use, test a spot on your carpet first. Even if it says that it should be fine on your carpet, you want to make sure. You don't want a huge pink spot in the middle of your floor because the product didn't work on your carpet.

When you spot clean, you might want to use a wet vacuum to help you. If you are trying to flush out the stain by soaking it with water and then sucking it up, try a wet vacuum or a carpet cleaning machine that you can rent from your local grocery store. If you are cleaning your carpet anyways, this is a great option because it usually helps get the stains out much faster.

If you have a dry stain that you are trying to get out, you might want to try soaking the area. Don't use too much water, just cover the spot with water and let it sit for a few minutes. You can then start working out the stain.

When you clean carpet stains, just remember that you have to get to them as soon as possible. That is the easiest way to get out a stain. If you can't get a stain out, you might want to consider hiring a professional carpet cleaner. If you are going to be replacing your carpet soon anyways, do as much as you can to get out the stain and then replace it as soon as possible. There isn't a point in spending a bunch of money for someone to clean your carpet when you are getting new carpet soon anyways.
