One of the hottest design trends today is the use of color in home design. While there is still a place for that restful looking neutral room many homeowners and designers are choosing to shake things up with the use of trendy colors. While you may be hesitant about making a bold move with color keep in mind that there are all sorts of ways to incorporate color into your next room makeover. Color can really help you make a statement, change your look and make you feel like you are in a new home without all the hassle of moving! You can pick your favorite color to highlight a room or make a selection from one of the "trendy" colors that designers are using today. If you feel unsure about how to proceed with trendy, bold color for your next room consulting a designer or looking online can give you the information you need but to help you get started here are tips for using trendy color-

  • Create a neutral palate to start with-By having a neutral background to design your room on you can really make color selections that will pop in the overall design of your room. If you are picking out high-priced furniture, stick with neutral colors, such as gray, tan, brown, black, white or gold. This gives you a constant base to work with, so as colors become trendy (and therefore change); you can add them to your space without spending a lot of money. This will help alleviate the fear that using trendy color in your room will be too expensive.
  • Start Small-The easiest and most versatile way to add color to any room is to intersperse the trendy shades throughout your space with pillows, glass, rugs and artwork. These items generally require a very small outlay of cash but can carry a big impact as far as color and design. For some really great buys try checking out thrift shops and other discount manufacturers as these retailers often provide huge markdowns on these types of items. Shopping online can also provide some deep discounts on small accessories for your room.
  • Transform your space-Keep in mind that painting a room is the most inexpensive and most dramatic way to bring color into your home. And best of all painting requires very little cash outlay for equipment and only requires minimal skill. If there is a trendy color combination you want to try, for dramatic statements consider putting them both on the walls. Just be sure that you pick shades in the same value, so they will work together.
  • Have a strong focal point-If you really cannot commit to painting an entire room in your trendy color of choice you may want to consider starting with a focal wall. Not only will it give you a chance to see how the color really is and let you live with it for awhile but it will draw the eye throughout the space, creating a visually interesting room. Many paint stores will even mix a small amount of the trendy color you are considering to give you a chance to use and see if you really want to keep it.
  • Go Bold!-If you really want to use a trendy color in your room design then do not be afraid to add a colored couch or chair to your space. If you love the color but feel you just cannot afford a brand new piece consider purchasing one of the trendy colored slipcovers that change your furniture instantly. Just be sure to accent with neutral colors to calm down the brightness of the furniture.
