Tips on getting your yard ready for summer

watering27365040.jpgAfter the long winter season, you are more than ready to get outside and get moving. Once spring and summer hit it is time to get the outside of your home cleaned up so that you can invite friends and family over for social gatherings, but also so that you can have a great looking yard. Here are some tips that you can follow to get your yard ready for the warm summer months that are coming soon.

Tip one:
Begin by raking your lawn. You should have thoroughly raked your lawn in the fall, so most of the leaves and debris should already be cleaned up. Once spring hits you will want to rake your lawn again to get everything that you missed. You will want to make sure that you get rid of all of the old leaves, twigs and other debris that is covering your planting beds and grass area. Removing this debris can help make your yard look a lot better. You can also choose to thatch your lawn at this time.

Tip two:
Het your yard and gardens ready for the planting seasons. You are going to want to take the time needed to spread fertilizer on both your garden areas and your lawns. Once you have applied fertilizer to your yard and garden areas you will want to follow it with a heavy application of Preen. Preen will cut down on the amount of weeds that you have coming up in your yard during the warm summer months. Before you can start planting flowers, you will also need to purchase some mulch or bark to spread underneath bushes, tress, and flowerbeds. This will help to eliminate weed growth, but also helps to keep the soil moist. After you have bought the mulch or bark, you can begin planting flowers in your yard.

Tip three:
If you have any concrete, stones or decks you will need to address those. The best thing that you can do to clean up dirt, mold, and weeds that grow on or around patios is to use a pressure washer, which will get it looking like new. You can also use a pressure washer prior to repainting or staining a wood deck to give it that just built appearance. You can also use a pressure washer to clean the exterior of your home if it is made from bricks. It can also be sued to clean out your gutters.

Tip four:
You will also need to repaint any of your old wood furniture to get it looking like new. If you have, pillow cushions on your outdoor furniture you need to wash the old cushions or buy new ones, depending on the state of the old cushions. You can buy cushions in a variety of colors, so you can find the color that best matches your yard decorations. If you have metal furniture, you will need to look for rust spots. If there is rust, all you need to do is sand it down and repaint the area with paint made for metal, which helps prevent rust from forming.

Tip five:
On an overcast day, you can wash the outside of your windows. The cleaner the outside of your house is the better your yard is going to look. The reason that you want to clean the windows on an overcast day when the temperatures are not too hot is it will help prevent streaking.

Just remember that getting your yard ready for summer is going to be an ongoing process, even after you get your yard done you will still need to work to maintain your yard.
