Tips to help you mop your kitchen floor less often

They say that preventing something before it happens can make life a lot easier. This holds true for much more than life's biggest lessons. Cleaning your kitchen floor is a chore for anyone that has to do it, so if you can figure out how to keep it clean, you will be mopping it less. Here are some tips to help you mop your kitchen floor less often and keep them fresh and new.
Tip #1: Sweep or vacuum Daily
If you have vinyl, hardwood/ laminate wood floors in your kitchen you can eliminate mopping so much by sweeping or vacuuming them at least once a day or more. Taking a few minutes a day to run the broom, vacuum, or microfiber mop over the hardwood or other type of surface you have will keep it looking newer for a longer time. It will also keep the dust and dirt from building up on the floor so you will have to use a wet mop less often.

Tip #2: Wipe Spills
Although no one likes to walk around the kitchen all day wiping up spills you will do less mopping if you clean up messes and spills right away. Moisture from liquids that are spilt on kitchen floors can soften the finish and sometimes even permeate it and stain the surface. Even just spilling water can do some damage to certain types of kitchen floors. Juices and other types of liquids will leave sticky spots that can also collect more dirt, so do yourself a favor and just clean the mess up right away.
Tip #3: Get a good mop
Sometimes the cheapest mop isn't the best mop to buy and use. Cheap mops can hold more dirt and you'll find yourself mopping dirty water all over the place and more often because it's not actually getting clean. Do yourself a big favor and get a good mop; not the most expensive one, but a good one that won't make the floor dirtier as you clean. Make sure it is a sturdy mop that isn't going to fall apart on you while you're mopping, as there's nothing more frustrating than a flimsy mop and that it will ring out all of the dirty water. Then make sure to change the water as you're mopping the floor.
Tip #4: Invest in some floor mats
The easiest way that dirt and dust are tracked into your home is through the doorways. When kids come home from school or just playing outside they can bring in the backyard with them. Investing in some floor mats can save you a lot of time on floor clean up. As they come inside have them wipe their feet on the mat, or better yet take their shoes off and put them in a designated area. This will help keep the dirt from being dragged into the entire house rather than just by the doorway.
Tip #5: Use a good cleaner
There are so many different floor cleaners out there that sometimes it can be tricky and overwhelming in picking one that will do what it says it will. And depending on the type of floor you have will depend on what kind of cleaner you want to use. For example, if you have hardwood floors, you don't want to use a regular cleaner on it. Some cleaners leave a sticky residue across the floor and actually act as a magnet for dirt, while others don't clean well enough. The only thing you can do about this is to try out what works best on your floor and stick with it.
Hopefully these tips to help you mop your kitchen floor less often will prove to work and you will be mopping less often than you normally do. Keeping up on spills and dust and dirt is the key to keeping the floors clean.
