Five ways to keep your fans free from dust build up. We all know that a fan is necessary in the hot summer. However, it is also well known that a fan will accumulate a yucky layer of dust and dirt over time. However, there are ways to keep your fans free from that dust build up.
Dust is a problem that affects many of our homes. The main thing with dust is that it will also cause allergies to go crazy. So when your fans get enough dust on them, you are spreading that dust through the air each time the fan is turned on. Therefore causing a problem with any person who has problems with dust allergies and or asthma.

If you think about what is in dust, you can know how to more easily keep your fans free from it. Dust comes from animals, mold, dust mites, and fibers. Dust mites tend to thrive more in the summer time when we are using our fans the most. So if you think about it, which is kind of gross to know that, your fan is throwing those mites around.
The best way to start the process of a clean fan is to wash the fan with a good cleaning solution each month thoroughly. This way the fan will not get as much dust on it. The way to do this is to take the fan apart and clean the blades, and inside of the fan with a bleach and water solution. The solution mixture should be 1-part bleach to 4-parts of water.
It is easy enough to open most fans, because you can simply un-screw four screws. Then take the outer screen pieces off, and wash them in a little bleach water in your bathtub.
It is a good idea to wear gloves when you attempt to clean the inside of your fan with the bleach water to protect your skin from chemical issues.
You can also use an over the counter bleach spray cleaner. They work just as well, however, they do cost a little more money.
After all areas of the fan are clean, allow the fan to completely dry. Then place the screen parts of the fan back on.
Then when everything is dry, you can go ahead and use the fan. Keep in mind that the electrical parts of a fan should not be gotten wet if possible.
If you have many contributing factors that are apparent for dust, like animals, poor ventilation systems etc, then it may be necessary to do the thorough cleaning more regularly.
Other than the deep cleaning of the fan you would do once per month, it is important to do a wipe down of the fans on a weekly basis.
This can be done by simply using a good dust cloth, or dusting device and running it in and out of the open areas of the fan.
After each cleaning, before you start to use the fan again, it is important to make sure that all pieces are dry.
If you are trying to clean your ceiling fan, it is the same basic idea. However you will not need to take it apart. More so, you will need to use a dust brush and remove the dirt and dust that is up in the fan on a weekly basis.
