flowers30342442.jpgNot everyone is blesses with a natural ability to have a green thumb. There are many of us who think that we know the basics of gardening and landscaping, but when it comes down to it, we draw a blank. Of course, we can explore many options. There are plenty of qualified landscapers and outdoor designers that you can hire to make your landscaping vision a reality. However, most of us do not have the resources to hire out all that work and there are many who enjoy the process of landscaping and the resulting satisfaction of doing a job themselves. So where can you find do-it yourself landscaping advice that will help you to stay on track as you improve your home? Here are some of the more popular options...

Local courses offered by hardware stores/nurseries

Just about every large hardware store and nursery offers free classes designed to help customers get the most out of the products that they can buy from them. Large chains like Lowes and Home Depot frequently offer landscaping courses to anyone who wishes to sign up for them. It is very common for smaller or local nurseries to offer similar courses although the range of landscaping topics may be more limited or at least specialized for the kind of plant growth that grows best in your area. Call the individual store to check the schedule for when certain classes will be offered.

Internet

The internet can provide a good number of reputable resources for landscaping advice. Simply use a search engine to find the topic that you are specifically interested in. You will want to keep in mind that certain sources are going to be more reputable than others so be sure that you are looking for information that is specifically tailored to your situation, accounting for your area, moisture levels, soil type, plant choices, etc.

Community center

Some areas fortunate enough to have active community centers will have classes available to them through those community centers. There are also a good number of senior centers or senior developments that offer free classes on landscaping. Check with your local community center to see if these courses are offered and if they are not available, suggest that a class be made available. Often times these kinds of classes are created based on demand.

Local gardeners

Feel free to ask local gardeners or people in your neighborhood who have beautiful laws, for advice. Often times these individuals have already invested a good amount of time in researching landscaping strategies and will be more than happy to share their experience with you. Additionally, when you talk to a landscaper who lives in your neighborhood, you benefit from the advice of someone who most likely deals with the same growing conditions as you. You can receive highly specialized advice by asking specific questions in a one on one type setting.

Books and magazines

Home and Garden Magazine and Better Homes and Gardens are just two magazines that are published on a regular basis and which contain very helpful landscaping and gardening advice for individuals of all ability levels. You can also perform a search on a book site like Amazon.com to find a book that may better meet your needs. Of course, your local bookstore should also carry books and magazines on the topic of gardening and landscaping.

When it comes to finding do it yourself landscaping advice, the challenge is not necessarily on knowing where to look, but in looking through all of the information that you will have available to you and finding the sources that give advice that specifically addresses your growing needs.
