A look at motivation myths
People fall into pitfalls and traps all of the time when they try to find motivation in the wrong places. People sometimes find success in ways that hurts those around them and think that they somehow are better than those people who helped them get there. Here is a look at motivation myths in our society.
Many people believe that if they can just strike it rich, they will be successful in whatever they want to become. While it is true that money and fame can help success breed new success, it is not necessarily the right way to go about things. There are ways people try to better themselves society that involves cheating, stealing, and lying in all forms. People feel that they are ok to do if they are done in order to improve their situation. Just because someone is motivated to do these things does not make it a respectable motivation. For example, people in the political world have been known to build a persona that reflects the idealistic American in order to win the votes of Americans by gaining some kind of trust with the voters who see them. Many times the truth is bent to look more than what it is in order to help someone become successful. While it is true that success in some degree can be won, it a myth that the person will be happier in such a position with that knowledge on their mind. People know right from wrong whether they are willing to admit what they are doing is truly wrong or not.

One myth about motivation that is prevalent in our society today is that it can be gained through putting others down. Just like the bullies on the playground who fight and hurt other kids for their enjoyment, there are people out there who are motivated to hurt others in order to make themselves feel superior. The truth is that they do not end up feeling better about themselves. They do, however, lose confidence in their own abilities and rely on others to do their bidding. Succumbing to a lower level of morals can shake even the worst of motivation. For example, the Mafia is an organization of crime that exists through family ties and trust between certain family members. It is hard to trace what they do because they are completely motivated to protect themselves. The problem that arises is that when one is caught, they usually don't give up their family because they are motivated to keep them secret from the "love" that they have from them. Even if what they have done was disgusting and terrible, their loyalty to their family is stronger than their conscience. It is interesting to look at instances where people have given in and turned on their families to see how the small sector of the family line comes crashing down as people lost the motivation and trust that they had from their family members.
There is one final myth that concerns motivation. Many people believe that motivation is completely internal and a personal struggle that only the person can deal with. This is not true. Motivation can be inspired by other people, by certain situations, and by the needs of other people. Finding motivation to help others comes fast when you realize that your influence on others can make all the difference in the world to that one person. Not only will you strengthen your own motivation, but you will inspire it in the people that you come across. Whether you are directly trying to help them or are indirectly influencing them, if you are an example for good people will follow and be examples themselves of positive motivation.
