Eliminating self limiting beliefs

Self-limiting beliefs are those things you believe about yourself that place limitations on your abilities. These can be conscious thoughts like, "I am so busy I will never have time to date." Or they may be unconscious thoughts like, "I am so fat no one will ever marry me." Some of these self limiting beliefs are founded, for example, you might actually be fat, and it might interfere with your ability to get dates. Or they might be unfounded, such as thinking that you are not lucky enough to get a good job. The problem with self-limiting beliefs is that they simply are not true. That you are fat may well be true. That no one will marry you as a result definitely isn't. That you might not get a job is true. However, luck isn't the criterion for getting a job. You get jobs based on merit. So, the first step to eliminating self-limiting beliefs is to realize that they are not logical.

Second, you have to recognize that it is all in your head. Limitations are actually a thing of the mind. In reality we have none. Time has proved again and again that you can do anything if you make up your mind to do it. Determination always finds a way around obstacles. There were times when people believed that a big hunk of metal could never fly, now there are thousands of commercial and private flights each day. People used to believe that running a mile in less than four minutes was impossible. Today, new world records are set, old records shattered, and there are several people able to run the mile faster than four minutes. Limitations are only there if you put them there.

Third, it is time for a thought adjustment. Our thoughts and beliefs influence our vision and perception of the world. Thoughts, or the lack thereof, determine actions. Thoughts influence feelings. Thoughts are powerful, and who controls thoughts? You do! You have to accept a thought for it to become a belief. If you have self-limiting beliefs it is because you have accepted self-limiting thoughts. So, adjust your thoughts and you will find that your beliefs will adjust as well.

Fourth, you have to recognize the consequence of self-limiting beleifs. It's been said that whatever you believe becomes your reality. Do you want the fact that you are fat to get in the way of your ability to marry? If not, then do not believe it. Self-limiting beliefs act like brakes on our progress. If you attempt to progress, but believe that you will fail, you most certainly will.

Fifth, now it is time to identify your personal self limiting beliefs. Now that you are aware of what they are and what they do, it is time to figure out what thoughts you have, conscious or otherwise that are getting in the way of your success. They could be lurking in the recesses of our minds without our awareness. Talking to friends and family about what they think your self-limiting beliefs are so that you can determine if you are missing any. Then challenge them when they enter your mind. Consciously start to reject these beliefs each time they enter your head.

If you stop giving them credence, they will die and leave. So, start making real efforts to eliminate self-limiting beliefs, and you will!
