Set realistic goals
Setting realistic goals is one of the most important things that a person can do when they are trying to get and stay motivated to eat right. It is not practical for a person to expect to change all of their eating habits right away. Most people have had the same eating habits their entire life, and changing such a long standing habit can be difficult, especially at the beginning of the process.
A person should make small goals that will help them to reach their larger goal of eating right. Making smaller goals and achieving these smaller goals can help a person to stay motivated through the changing process. For example, a person can make a goal to bring a healthy snack of baby carrots or whole wheat crackers to work each day. This can help them to replace the candy or unhealthy chips that they normally snack on through the work day. This is a small goal, but will help a person to attain their bigger goal of eating right.
It is also important for a person to write down their goals; both the little and the big goals. A goal will not become a reality if it is not written down. And a person will have even more motivation to reach their goal of eating right if they are able to cross little goals off on the way to achieving the bigger goal.
Doctor visit
A person may be able to get motivated to eat right by getting a full physical examination. Most of the time, during a full examination, the doctor will check a person's cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, and blood pressure, etc. Finding out the results of these tests could motivate someone to eat right since bad results from these tests could mean diseases or even a shorter life.
Really changing what you eat
It is also a good idea for a person to not even buy candy, cakes, ice cream, soda pop, and other junk foods. If a person does not even have these enticements available to them, they will be tempted to eat them. Instead, a person should buy fruits and vegetables; lots of fruits and vegetables. They should buy whole grain pastas and breads. Having this healthy food in the house can be a great motivation to someone to help them eat right. And even if these foods do not sound very appetizing at first, if a person is really hungry, and all they have in the house is whole wheat spaghetti and an apple, they will be more likely to eat them.
Get a buddy
If a person has a friend that is working on the same, or a similar goal to eat right, that friend can be a great motivator. In fact, the two people can work to motivate each other. Having a friend who understands the challenges of staying motivated to make good food choices, can help a person stay on track.
If a person does not have a buddy who can take the journey with them, they should at least tell someone else that they are trying to eat right. If they know that other people are aware of their goals and are expecting them to follow through, this can help them feel more pressure to stay motivated and eat right.
