Tip one:
Never start too big. If you decide to get more active, do not just start with working out for two hours every night. What you want to do instead is to start small and then build up the activity level until you are satisfied. For example, talk a short walk around the block or to the store a couple of nights a week; slowly increase the number of times you are walking until you are walking every night. You can also increase the distance that you are walking.
Tip two:
You need to get away from some of the technology that is in your life. For many of us we spend hours a day sitting in front of a computer working or playing. What you need to do is to start getting away from the computer for more and more time each day. For example, limit yourself to one hour of playtime on the computer, then go out, and do something that requires you to be active. The less you rely on technology for things the more active you will start becoming. Even at work instead of sending an email or making a phone call walk to your co-workers desk to talk with them.
Tip three:
The people who you hang out with are going to influence how active you are. If none of your friends like to get outside and do things chances are you will never get outside and do things either, so you might need to find some new friends. You want to surround yourself with people who are going to want to stay active rather than sit around watching television, or you can find people who enjoy doing both.
Tip four:
At the beginning of each week, you are going to want to sit down and think of goals you want to set for yourself. When you are setting the goals for yourself, you want to keep in mind that you only want to set realistic goals, if you don't set realistic goals chances are you will never reach your goals. For example, set a simple goal like walking 15 minutes three days a week or eating seven servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Make sure that you put the goals in writing and keep track of how well you complete your goals. For example, use a logbook to record your goals and then use it to track what you are doing to reach your goals.
Tip five:
Rather than trying to get motivated by doing the same activity that you fail at each year try doing something new. To do this you will need to find an activity that you enjoy doing, which can take a few weeks. To find the activities that you enjoy best you will need to try out various activities that interest you, including classes or lessons of activities that you might enjoy.
