Get motivated to get fit
![]()
Many people want to get fit; in fact, one study showed that nearly 6 in 10 Americans have a goal to lose weight and get in shape.
Without motivation, however, getting fit can be very difficult. Motivation is what gives you the drive to put a plan to get fit into action, and it also gives you the ability to keep going and see your goal through, even when it's difficult.

Here are just a few ways you can get motivated to get fit:
Put it in writing.
You can get motivated to get fit by writing down some of the reasons you want to get fit. Make a list of the benefits of a fitter lifestyle. These can include better health overall, more energy, lose weight, fit into your clothes better, be more confident, and many more. Once you write it down, you will get motivated by actually seeing the positive outcome of getting fit.
Make a plan.
Plan out exactly what you are going to do to get fit and consider it your road map to fitness. This will motivate you because once you have an actual plan of action in place, you can see for yourself that your goals and what it takes to accomplish them are completely do-able. Seeing just exactly how you will succeed is a great motivation.
Your plan should also be flexible. It might take a little trial and error before you come up with a plan that suits you best, so be open to experimenting a little and changing things around.
Find a buddy.
Getting fit is harder when you're doing it alone. That's why many people find success when they enlist the help of a friend who has similar goals. So find a friend who would also like to get fit and join forces. Together, you can exercise (it's difficult to skip your workouts when you have someone waiting for you) and keep each other motivated and encouraged as you work together to get fit. Having someone to turn to for support and motivation is a great way to get excited and motivated about getting fit, and staying that way.
Try new things.
You can get motivated to get fit and stay motivated by trying new things that you will look forward to that will help you get fit. This can include picking up a new sport, taking advantage of the nice weather and running outside instead of on a treadmill, or taking a new class at the gym that you've always wanted to try. This will keep you motivated and keep you from getting bored in your quest to get fit.
Anticipate setbacks.
One way you can stay motivated to get fit is to anticipate setbacks. No matter how well-thought out your plan to get fit is, chances are pretty good you're going to slip up every once in awhile. This is perfectly normal and to be expected, whether it's skipping a workout to watch TV or eating an entire carton of ice cream in one day. If you've had a setback, acknowledge it, don't beat yourself up over it, and get back on track right away.
Getting fit is a goal that will give you more energy and make you happier, healthier, and more confident. But it takes motivation to get fit. These tips are a few things you can do to get motivated to get fit.
