Getting a support group

confidence30842627.jpgWhen we set about to accomplish big things like changing our personalities, it is always helpful to have a good support group. Just like quitting smoking or drinking, a good support group will be there to encourage and uplift you when you are struggling. They want to see you become a successful person and face your challenges without fear.

Facing big changes on our own can be hard. With a support group, you have others around you to keep you focused and motivated about your goals. You can create your own support group by talking to some of those individuals that are closest to you. Usually this tends to be family members and close friends. Let them know what your goals are and how you plan to go about changing your personality in different ways.

As you go through the ups and downs of changing your personality the support group will be able to watch you and notice when you have problems. A great way to have a good support group around you is to get with people that want to change too. These individuals are like you and they want to make their lives better as well as the lives of the people they interact with on a daily basis.

If you are struggling to get a good support group at home or work that keeps you focused and motivated, consider using the internet. You can make a ton of friends on web sites like Facebook or on web sites that are focusing on becoming a better person. Your online friends can become your support group and can help you stay motivated.

One of the best things about an online support group is that these individuals often provide input on things that worked for them and things that didn't work. Since you are all focused on the same goals, it is much easier to have a stronger connection with these individuals.

Online support groups also have extra things that can help you stay motivated like discussion groups, forums, newsletters, and frequently asked question pages. Many of the online support groups even come with professional help from licensed psychologists or religious leaders. With all the different people on the internet out there to help you, it is so much easier to stay motivated and truly work on becoming a better person so you don't let your new friends down.

Consider hiring a psychologist to be your support group. As we face daily challenges to become a better person, it often helps to have someone there that is willing to listen to our frustrations, challenges, and struggles. The best part about a psychologist is that they are not only great listeners, they often offer excellent advice. Many of them can organize a support group for you to meet with on a weekly basis. This is a great way to connect with other people in your same situation that are just looking to become good people.

You also need to be your own support group. No one knows you better than you know yourself. You know your limits. You know your expectations, and you know what you are capable of. Stay motivated by putting small post-it notes all over your house that encourage you to try and do something to become a better person. Do not set unrealistic expectations on yourself as this is just setting yourself up for failure. Use a calendar to help track your progress as you move forward to larger goals until you eventually are able to introduce new qualities to your personality that become part of who you are without thinking about them.
