Getting motivated to get some exercise

We all want to look fit and trim, but sometimes it is hard to actually take the steps to hit the gym. Working out is easier said than done. The following are some steps for getting motivated to get some exercise:

Step one: Find a work out buddy. It is so much easier to get in to the gym, go for a job, or even do aerobics in your home if you have a buddy to do it with. A buddy will motivate you because it is easy to let yourself down, and not do what you told yourself you would, but it is much harder to let someone else down. If you tell a friend you are going to meet them to go jogging at six am, the chances of not getting out of bed, or hitting the snooze button drop. However, if you just tell yourself that you are going to go jogging at six, then you will probably just hit the snooze because you are too tired, or tell yourself you will go later. Then life happens and you never find the time. So, find a work out buddy and your motivation to work out will sky rocket.

Step two: Buy a gym pass. A gym pass is a great motivator to get some exercise because you do not want to waste your money, and for some reason it is a lot easier to jog on the treadmills at the gym than at home. However, when you buy a gym pass, try to get a good deal on it, for example, look on Craigslist to see if you can buy a remaining portion of someone else's for a significant reduction in price. Also, buy a gym membership for a gym that is close by. Even if you think you will be willing to go further, chances are you will find excuses for why it is too far away and too difficult to get to the gym. So, get a membership to one close by and you will find yourself feeling motivated to work out each time you pass it.

Step three: Register for a work out class. If you are having trouble getting motivated to exercise, let someone else motivate you. Register for a class, better yet, pay for and register for a class. This will get you far more excited about working out, plus it makes it more of an obligation to get exercise because you are scheduled to be there. So, register for cycling, aerobics, swimming, pilates, yoga, it does not matter what. This will motivate you to at least show up and get some exercise, even if it is only a half an hour class.

Step four: Schedule time to work out. If you put exercise time into your schedule you will far more motivated to do it because you will have a lack of excuses, it is planned, it is not interfering with something else you should be doing, and it is good for you. Take out your day planner, palm pilot, or whatever else you keep your schedule on, and set your time to exercise, then you will be more motivated to follow through each day and actually do it.

Step five: Think about how much better you feel when you do exercise. You will sleep better, have a better appetite, counteract some of the junk you ate that day, and be able to enjoy more energy and vibrancy. So, use the way you feel afterward to motivate you to continue exercising on a regular basis.
