Getting motivated to get some sleep
Sleep is key to health and happiness. We all know this, and yet we still let a lot of things get in the way of sleep. We let television, talking on the phone, going out with friends, or even doing nothing get in the way of sleep. So, how can you change that? The following are some ways to get motivated to get some sleep:
1. Try it out and see how it goes. Just one week of going to bed early, and getting up after about eight hours will probably be all the motivation you need to get some sleep. Sleep is something that induces more sleep. It also helps you feel better, have energy during the day, you stay healthier, and you are generally less moody if you get enough sleep each night, so try it out, and let that motivate you. Usually you have gone so long without sleep that you do not feel like getting enough is really going to be that big of a deal. However, if you try for just one week, and not let yourself get distracted, you will find that you love getting enough sleep, that it makes you feel so good, and that you are motivated. You will likely still have a few late nights here and there, but for the most part the benefits will be evident and you will like sleep too much to not be motivated to get some.

2. Read up on the benefits of sleep. A good motivator to help you overcome your desires for fun and games in the late hours of the night is to read up on the benefits of sleep. Besides just not being tired you get a lot of health benefits. It is while we sleep that our bodies are able to heal. It is while we sleep that our immune systems strengthen. It is while we sleep that we grow. Sleep gives us more energy not just because we aren't tired but because if you get enough sleep you will be healthier and so your body will be expending less energy on basic functions. So, do some research or just use your experience to let the benefits of sleep motivate you to get some.
3. Evaluate how you feel when you have sleep and when you don't. Write it out for yourself. If you keep track of how much sleep you get each night for a month, and next to that write out how you felt during the day, etc. you would find that moodiness, irritability, etc. all go hand in hand with not enough sleep. That would likely motivate you to get some more sleep. You do not have to track it for a month, but it would be wise to evaluate how you feel when you get enough sleep, and when you don't, and let that motivate you to get more sleep.
4. Look at how much more effective you are when you get plenty of rest. A huge motivator for getting sleep is the sheer fact that when you do get enough you are far more effective. Tasks that should be quick and easy can be hard and frustrating if you are tired. So, start paying attention. You will see that your effectiveness and productivity levels jump when you get sufficient rest, and when you don't get enough the drop. Let this motivate you in that when you are more effective you have more free time, and more time to do things you enjoy instead of things that are mandatory in life.
