Getting motivated to improve your mind
When kids are young, they are anxious to learn everything about the world. They ask question after question, often pestering the adults they are around. As they go to school, and their search for knowledge starts to be fulfilled, things often change. After time, instead of seeking knowledge and improvement of the mind, they seek relief in the bliss of mindless television watching, video gaming, online surfing, etc. As an adult, the motivation to improve your mind, learn more, garner more information, may be all but snuffed out. So, what can you do to relight that flame and passionate desire to learn everything you can? What can you do to get motivated to improve your mind? Try the following:

1. Get rid of the fears. Often kids desire to learn is snubbed out by an off-hand comment, rude remark, or insensitive gesture. A child who is trying hard to learn to read can be turned off to reading when an older sibling laughs at their mistakes. A high-schooler who dreams of one day becoming a great scientist may give up on that dream because they scored poorly on a test. As an adult, there is usually a reason you no longer desire to improve your mind. You may be afraid you are too stupid, that you will fail, that you will make a fool of yourself, etc. If you want to improve, and become a better, more capable you, the first thing you have to do is let go of the fears and tear down the barriers that are standing in the way of you pursuing further knowledge. Money can't be an issue and you do not have to pay to improve your mind. You can go online and read, you can take free courses, you can attend seminars that are offered as public service. You do not have to pay a college tuition or hire a tutor to improve your mind, you just have to want to.
2. Make it a priority. You are never going to get motivated to improve your mind if the latest reality television show, newest video game, or coolest social media is taking up all of your free time. You find gratification or satisfaction of some kind with the way you spend your time, so to get motivated to improve your mind, you have to find what gratification that will give you, and remember it so that when you are faced with the choice of reading a book about finances, or watching celebrities dance, you choose reading a book about finance.
3. Start with something you already enjoy. Improving your mind can be done in a number of ways, and if you want to relight the fire that helps you seek knowledge, the best place to start is with something you already know you love. So, for example, if you love horses, visit your local library, and get books about them, and learn everything there is to learn about horses. It will be enjoyable for you because you already have an interest there, and it will improve your mind. Once you have exhausted that subject, or at least learned enough to satisfy, move on to something else that interests you. As you do this your passion will ignite, and soon you will want to learn anything and everything.
