Getting motivated to study, read, and learn for fun!

While being smarter is something we would all want to be, sometimes it is hard to want to study, read, and learn when we could be doing something more fun, like playing games, sleeping in, reading television etc. So, how do you get motivated to study, read, and learn for fun? Try the following:

1. Start slow, with something you like, such as Harry Potter. If you have never been one to enjoy learning, reading, etc. but you want to start doing these things for fun, you can't start with something deep and heavy. Get motivated to do more reading, studying and learning by starting off with something really enjoyable. There are tons of great fiction books that can really light a fire under you, and spark the curiosity and desire to read more. Start with something like Harry Potter, or Eragon that has a series so that you do not just read one book and are done, but that you want to continue with the story and keep reading. Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse are a fascinating series that appeals to many. Harry Potter is one of the most read series ever. If this genre is not right for you, try Grisham, find an author, or a type of book you enjoy and find pleasure in reading and start there. This should motivate

2. Find someone to get learning with. If you really struggle to get motivated to do any sort of reading or learning for fun, it can be helpful and motivational to find a friend to learn with. You can go to the library together, or to a museum together, and enjoy the process with someone. For many the social aspect was the best part of school, not the learning, so keep learning by continuing in the social.

3. Join a book group. Sometimes it is easier to learn, read, and study for fun when you have a group to do it with and a time line to do it by. So, join a book group. You will have reading that is pre-determined, and you will have an opportunity to socialize as you discuss the book and gain insight into the book by looking at other people's perspectives.

4. Take a class that you get credit for. A great way to get motivated to learn is to get something for it, like a degree. So, if learning is hard and not fun, take a class that is interesting, but one you get credit for, and start out slow. Take one class, then two, then three until you find a love for learning.

5. Study learn and read about something you love, such as cooking. If you want to make reading, studying, and learning fun you have to do it the right way. This means studying things of interest to you, and studying not just out of a book. For example, if you love cooking, read cook books, study about the different origins of recipes, and maybe even travel and learn about cooking in Italy, Paris, Mexico, wherever you find the most fascinating. It is possible to enjoy learning if you are learning about something you like. So, get motivated by getting excited by studying something you already have interest in, and let that interest lead you to your new paths of study. You may start out at trees, and move to birds that inhabit trees, which may lead to learning about insects these birds eat, that leads to something else. The process can be fun and educational you just have to start in the right place-something that interests or fascinates you.
