Getting motivated to work harder

A lot of times it is hard to work, there are plenty of distractions, television, drama in your family, the snack machine, lunch break, whatever it is. Many times we get too comfortable in life and instead of working the way we should we just coast by. So how do you get motivated to work harder? Try some of the following:

1. Recognize benefits of hard work. There are many benefits that come from working hard. The satisfaction of knowing you put in a good effort and did not slack. The fact that when you work hard you get better results. The recognition that you get from others. The accomplishment itself. The list goes on. However, if you recognize the benefits of hard work you can use them to motivate you to work harder. For example, if you recognize that if you work hard you get more done faster, you can use that as a motivator on days when you have plans in the evening and do not want the weight of unfinished work hanging over your head all night. Another example is that sometimes the benefit of hard work is a raise, or a promotion. So, you can use that as a motivator to put in the time and effort because you know that your efforts will not go unnoticed, and that you will enjoy the benefit greatly, but that it can't come without the hard work.

2. Reward yourself when you work harder. One of the best motivators for anything is rewards. If you want to motivate your child to be potty trained you have potty training treats that they get each time they use the toilet instead of their diaper. Positive reinforcement is best. So, the same holds true with getting motivated to work harder. You have to set up some rewards that come with hard work. So, if you have a specific thing that needs to be accomplished, set yourself a demanding time line, and when you accomplish that you get to have or do or see or spend or whatever reward is best for you. Rewards motivate, use them!

3. Set goals that require harder work. A good way to motivate yourself to do something is to turn that something into a goal. There is just something about setting a goal that makes you more inclined to follow through and actually accomplish the thing. So, set a goal to work harder, and then that will be on your mind, when you start to slack your goal will likely pop into your head, and then each time you slack it is a conscious decision.

4. Post reminders for yourself, "Are you working hard, or hardly working?" is a great example of a reminder that when written out can help to keep you motivated to work hard. It is not easy to want to work hard, especially if you are tired or if there are distractions. But, a little visual reminder can do a lot to motivate you to work harder than you are. It is like that extra boost to keep you going and make you more inclined to work harder.

If you want to get motivated to work hard you just need to follow the above steps and you will find that it is easier to work harder because you are working harder for a good reason. So, enjoy working hard and enjoy the results that come from working hard.
