How simply sticking with it when times get rough will keep you motivated

Staying motivated to do the things that need to get done can be difficult. If there are things that you do not do because you love to, or things that take motivation to get done, then it is important for you to stay motivated no matter what. In life things do not go perfectly, there will be interruptions and problems, things that effect you emotionally will occur. So, you have two choices, you can stop working and let the emotional drama take over, or you can work through it, stick with it, and stay motivated. The following is an explanation of why simply sticking with it when times get rough will keep you motivated:

1. If when something hard, or rough happens, you just give up, and decide to come back to things later, when you aren't so distracted by your problems, you will find that you will be unlikely to ever get motivated to come back to it. Giving up is equivalent to no success, and if you have no success in what you do, you will not be very likely to want to continue doing it, and try for success. Instead, you will feel frustrated, and you will associate the thing you need to be motivated to do with your problem, instead of separate like it should be. So, what should you do? If you have a rough moment, instead of stopping work, or whatever it is you are doing, just push through. You will have a hard time at first, you won't be as productive, or effective, but after just a little while you will be back on the ball, and you will be better off than if you don't stick with it. If you stop, then when you come back to it, you will feel behind, and you will have a big struggle.

2. After about 30 minutes you will regain your focus. It is true, when something rough or upsetting happens to you, the natural reaction is to give up for a while, then come back to it. Especially if the hard thing is unrelated to your work. For example, you may be working hard, and get a phone call with bad news. You can stop working, or you can push through. Those who chose to push through, and stick with it, find that the first few minutes are trying, and that they are unproductive, which makes you think once again that you should just take a break. However, if you push through, and stick with it, after about 30 minutes you will regain your focus and you will be much more productive, and when you do take a break it will be for the right reasons, so when you come back from it, you will be effective and productive.
3. Often taking a break will help you to get focused, but if you take a break at the wrong time, then you lose motivation. It is like leaving on a bad note. If you stop working because something goes wrong what you are telling yourself is that if things aren't perfect, you can't work. Bad idea! Instead, stick with it, yes, not everything will be ideal, and you may find that a time is unproductive, but the overall results are far better than if you give up for a time, and try to come back later.
So, next time something rough happens, whether related, or unrelated, stick with it for at least 30 more minutes. If after 30 minutes you find you still can't focus, and you are struggling to push forward, then take a break. However, in most cases you will find that after 30 minutes you will have regained your focus and are even more productive.
