It's difficult to balance everything that life throws at us. Finding a healthy balance between our work life and our home life is hard to do. With a little help however it can be done without losing your mind. Here's how to achieve balance in life while still have a full time job.

  1. Plan out your days. Planning is the first part to achieving balance in life. Create a schedule for yourself from the time you wake up in the morning to the time you go to bed. Making a schedule for yourself will give you a chance to actually see on paper what you're doing and how much of your time you're devoting to work, to family, or to whatever it is that you do during the day. Sit down and make an hour by hour plan so that every hour during the day is accounted for. In order to take your life back and achieve the balance you're looking for, you need to know where your time is spent.
  2. Leave work at work. It's extremely difficult for some people to leave work at five or six o'clock and not bring that home with them. Achieving balance means that when you're at work you concentrate on work, and when you leave work you actually "leave" work. It's not fair to yourself or to your family that you bring home stresses and other work matters. Try to separate them as much as possible.
  3. Schedule time for family. Nobody thinks they should have to actually schedule "family time" but most people would find more balance in their lives if they did it. Raising a family is hard work and if you want to find time to spend with them, then make some plans. This is part of your scheduling; schedule some time with family members.
  4. Schedule time for yourself. Along the same lines as scheduling some time with your family, you also need time for yourself. What are your interests or hobbies? What do you like to do in your spare time? Everyone needs some time to themselves to do something they enjoy, so find what you like and write it in your schedule book.
  5. Exercise and meditate. Another important part to achieving balance in life is to exercise. It has been proving by scientists that exercise releases certain endorphins that can help your body release stress and feel mentally as well as physically healthy. As you plan your day out, pick a time where you can exercise uninterrupted. You might also want to look into meditation as part of your "you" time.
  6. Be flexible. Flexibility is a big part in achieving balance in life. Without it, you're likely to drive yourself crazy. Days hardly ever goes as we plan them to, so it's important to leave some room for "hiccups." While planning your day is crucial to finding a balance, don't be so rigid that you leave no room for things that just "come up." Be flexible.
  7. Use your time effectively. This is probably just as important as planning your day out. Planning your day helps you use your time wisely and effectively so you can get the most don't when you need to. Pressure and stresses come when we don't use the time we have to finish what we need. If you have a deadline for something then don't waste your time playing on the computer.

Hopefully these suggestions on how to achieve balance in life will come in handy as you try to balance work and home life. Remember to plan your days and use your time effectively so that there is time for everyone and everything.
