How to achieve your goals

How many times have you thought, "I will finally get to that!" or "It's a new year and I am going to." Many times we seemed to be swallowed in life by our intentions. We plan on doing something but seemed to be sidelined by the everyday concerns and needs of our lives. Perhaps some sort of life changes has led us to setting goals and forming a plan but that now leaves us with the next question-How do I achieve the goals I have set? If the process of goal setting has been followed in setting realistic, attainable goals and the goals have been written down in detail then the following steps can help anyone looking to put a goal-setting plan into motion-

1. Follow your goals with positive action. By using the power of positive thinking followed by positive action

2. Be precise in following your goals. If you have added enough detail to make your goal-setting realistic than follow the plan in that amount of precision. Put in dates, times, and amounts so your progress can be measured and evaluated. This allows for some sense of satisfaction as you progress to your desired outcome.
3. Set priorities even in achieving your goals. If you have several goals you are working on give each a priority. This helps direct attention to the most important ones and helps you to avoid feeling overwhelmed by too many goals.
4. Write down everything-goals, efforts and results. By writing down the goals you have a roadmap. By recording the efforts made you can see success as you progress. And by writing down results you can have the satisfaction of seeing your goals achieved and have a record of what you have accomplished.
5. Review your goals to make sure they are small and achievable. Your immediate goals should be the smallest or broken down in parts of your overall goal. If a goal is too large, then it can seem that you are not making progress towards it. Keeping goals small and incremental gives more opportunities for reward. Today's goals should be derived from larger goals.
6. Make sure your goals are based on actual performance and not just outcome. Goals are much more effective if they reflect an actual result not just something that happens.
7. Make sure you have as much control over your goals as possible. While there are always things that happen beyond your control it can be dispiriting to fail in a personal goal for reasons beyond your control. Try to screen out influences on your goal that may not be controlled such as bad business environments, poor judging, bad weather, injury, or just plain bad luck. Instead basing your goals on personal performance, skill or knowledge to be acquired can help you keep control of them and increase your satisfaction in ultimately achieving your goal.
8. Be specific in adhering to your goal-setting. If you adhere to all the conditions in the goal you have set you will not only be more successful you will feel much more successful when the goal has been achieved. Commit yourself to 100% effort in reaching your goal. Be willing to analyze your goal as you go along to make sure you are mapped for success and not setting yourself up to fail. Conditions sometimes warrant changing the specifics of a goal to meet our life-plan.
By setting achievable, realistic goals and then using the above steps to achieve them anyone can improve their quality of life and achieve their dreams. Goals are the means by which we turn our dreams into reality.
