How to assess your self-help needs?

How to assess your self-help needs? The thing about self- help is you need to know where you want to help yourself. Assessing the needs you have in order to know what your needs are for helping yourself will take a little inward looking at your feelings.
Self-help books sell by the millions. The reason for this is that as humans, there is no manual that we are given at birth. We all learn things in different ways. Some of us want to learn by choice and mistake. While there are others of us that want to learn by other peoples mistakes. This is a funny way of looking at it, but seriously, this is what self-help is all about. We need to learn about something that specifically affects our lives.
This can be a specific aspect of your life, your body, your profession etc. However, it can also be an aspect of your husband or wife's life, your child's life, or a professional aspect of your life.

As you sit down and think about what you want to have help for in your life, you will want to meditate on what is really specifically calling for attention. Instead of simply saying that you want help becoming a better mom, think about what part of being a good mom you want to look at. There are many books out there that teach that spending time with your children will make you a better mom. However, you need to be specific on what you will do, in order to become the mom you want to be.
The same goes for learning to cook. Sure, you will want to help yourself learn how to cook at cake, but how about if you do not know how to measure out the ingredients? This is what it is all about. You need to assess what your specific self-help needs will be.
Here are some good questions to ask yourself when you are trying to assess your self-help needs:
- What do you feel you need help on?
- Can you write down your overall goal of where you want to be at the end of your self-help challenge?
- Can you break that larger goal of self-help down into smaller goals?
- Will your goal be to help yourself, or are you going to be trying to help others around you?
- How serious are you about getting your help and goals going?
When you know what it is that you need help in, you will want to then set up a series of goals. The reason for this is that it is hard to help yourself, if you do not feel motivated to do so.
Reaching the smaller goals, and rewarding yourself in small ways will help you to learn more about helping yourself.
After you have set up your goals, you will need to decide if you are only going to be helping yourself through your self-help, or if you are planning on helping other people. The thing that you need to remember with self-help is that it is simply that. If you're helping yourself helps others that is awesome. However, it is not something that you can push onto other people. They may not want the help, therefore, you will not only meet up with resistance, but you can also cause several issues if you try to force the help.
Are you serious about helping yourself? This is because no matter what you read or plan, if you are not serious about learning and reaching your goals, you will never help yourself.
This is how to assess your self-help needs and how to get where you want to go. So take this information into mind, as you are trying to find out where you feel you need help.
