How to be a motivated student:

For most students, the most difficult part of the learning experience, is learning how to become self-motivated. The ability to be a motivated student is very difficult, and often times, when it comes down to making a decision between completing an assignment on time and doing something else more entertaining, such as going to a movie or out with friends, the decision is not what it should be. There are many things you can do to help become a more motivated student, and setting a plan to accomplish your goals is crucial.
1. One of the most important things when attempting to motivate yourself in your schooling is to remember the cost of paying for school. It is a very good thing to remind yourself once in a while how much you spent on any given class's tuition. When deciding whether you should give your full effort to a class or not, the reminder that $400 or so worth of tuition money was spent to pay for the class will remind you of the importance of the class. You wouldn't have paid that money in the first place if the outcome of doing well wasn't important to you. So remember your long term goals, because having an end in sight always helps.

2. Another great way to set goals when attempting to be a motivated student is by breaking down your workload into small, manageable pieces. Sometimes a class may seem really overwhelming if you're thinking about all the work you have to do during the course of your term or semester. If you look at how much work you have to do each day, and then do it, instead of becoming overwhelmed by the complete class, you will surely get it all done. A great example of how to do this is by devoting a calendar completely to each class, and the work required to be done for it. A motivated student has a calendar, with the assignments that need to be done each day. Each day on the calendar would also include daily reading assignments that needed to be done so that all textbooks would be read on time.
3. Once you've set these goals, you need a rewards system. REWARDS! REWARDS! REWARDS! It is very important to remind yourself how awesome you are. Being a motivated student is very difficult, but doable. If you are able to accomplish this, using these ideas, you will be more likely to keep going strong with your studies and continue making good grades. The rewards should vary depending what motivates you. Some ideas: A night on the town or dinner at a fancy restaurant, an article of clothing or electronic device you've been wanting, or even something so small as a night to yourself, or an expensive grocery item that you usually refrain from purchasing. Anything that motivates you will do, and it should be something good enough that will cause you to continue working hard. Rewards are a way of telling yourself that you've done a good job. It's a pat on the back that will keep you on your way of doing what you want to do.
All of these things will help you in your path of becoming a motivated student. You should absolutely make sure that you set and remember your long and short term goals. It is essential to reward yourself. If it is enough of a reward for you to simply receive good grades, which you will get if you put the time and effort needed into classes than that is fine, but for most of us, we need a little bit more, and rewards are not selfish, but a fabulous way to become more motivated in your studies. However, the most important motivation overall is to be studying something that you love. If you are passionate about the subjects you are studying, that's the best motivation possible. Classes will be more enjoyable to you, and you will be able to accomplish what you desire in school.
