How to be better by harnessing your power to motivate
As we journey through life, we are becoming better or worse. We never stay the same for long. We are somewhat fluid. Hopefully, most of us are improving ourselves as we grow older. But in some things, it is inevitable that we will regress. For example, as we get older our physical and mental capacity may diminish a bit. However, our will power to exercise and wisdom to apply the knowledge we have can increase, and so we can become more effective human beings as we grow older. Unfortunately, some of us begin to neglect ourselves as we get older. We begin to rely on past successes to carry us into the future. This is too bad because if you don't regularly exercise your abilities, talents, skills and knowledge, they will begin to slip away from you.

How can you keep improving yourself so that you don't lose what you have, and even add to it? By using your power to motivate yourself, and using all your past experiences, knowledge, wisdom and intuition, you can accomplish incredible things. Don't try to ride your past successes to the end of your life like a surfer who's done for the day. Keep improving yourself using the same motivational techniques that you used when you were younger to become the person you want to be.
It is not enough to do things right, you must do the right things. Don't get caught up in doing things that are meaningless and unproductive. Ask yourself this question, "What are the important things in this life that need to be done, and that no one else can do the way I can"?
Use the motivational power that is within you to keep you going. You have learned that every meaningful worthwhile endeavor takes a lot of time. If you have always admired artists, and have always wanted to learn to paint pictures, then you already have the main motivational ingredient to help get you started. But you also know that learning any new skill like painting is going to take a lot of patience and time. That is fine. You are not going to be satisfied with the crappy paintings that you are doing in the beginning, but they are building blocks to something better later on. Use your ability to visualize how you want your paintings to look. As you stick with it, acquire more skills through study, and are persistent, you will see results over time. If you are one to say that you don't have the patience or the time to spend on your endeavor, consider this: that time is going to pass anyway whether you use it for something useful or not. You may as well use the time to improve yourself.
Never surrender to setbacks, defeats, and disappointments. Sometimes we have health problems, or serious financial difficulties. Serious and permanent injuries or the death of a loved one can cause a major shift in our lives. It is not easy when these trials occur, and there is no easy way around them. At these difficult times, we need to find the courage to press forward. If we allow ourselves to be defeated, then we will sink down into depression, or into a rut that is difficult to get out of. Besides, when times are good, and good things just seem to be coming your way effortlessly, you don't need much motivation as when times are bad. When times are hard, use you power to motivate yourself to keep marching forward one step at a time.
