How to be true to yourself

When it comes to being true to yourself, many people think it is something that is simple to do. For most people it is, but every so often, you find yourself lying to yourself or your friends about who you really are. By not being true to yourself, you are not going to make yourself happy, nor will anybody else be happy with you. In order to be happy with who you are you are going to need to accept yourself for who you are. The best way to accept yourself for who you are and to be happy with yourself is to always remain true to yourself, no matter what anybody else says or does.

Here are the steps that you are going to need to follow in order to always be true to yourself.

Step one:

You need to find out what makes you the happiest. By finding out about what you really like and don't like you will be able to better determine what it means to stay true to yourself. When finding about yourself you will also discover what you believe in and what you don't believe in, which will give you somewhere to stand based on your opinions on certain matters. The important thing is getting to know yourself so that you can find out what is making you happy. Once you have found what makes you happy stick with it.

Step two:

During the course of your life, you are going to hear many negative comments from a wide variety of people the important thing is you cannot let these negative comments affect you. Do not listen when people have negative things to say about you and what you are doing. The important thing to remember is that if it makes you happy that is all that matters. The reason for this is that in order to be true to yourself and others you have to do what makes you happy, not what is expected by other people.

Step three:

In order to make sure that you are happy with yourself for who you are you will need to put the past behind you because there is nothing that you can do to change what has happened in the past. If the things that happened in the past are, a bad thing thinking about them or brooding about them will only drag you down and make you not like yourself. Rather than letting the past drag you down you need to learn from the mistakes that you made in the past so you can avoid making the same choices in the future.

Step four:

An important part of being true to yourself is not being friends with people who do not have the same values and moral as yourself. You need to stay true to your values and morals and being around people who do not share those values and morals makes it rather hard because often times you pretend to be somebody that you are not.

Step five:

When choosing your friends make sure that, you are looking at them openly and honestly rather than through "rose colored glasses." You want to pick friends who make you feel good about yourself, but you also want to choose friends who are going to give as much as they receive in the relationship.

Step six:

You need to make sure that you know what your weaknesses are and what your limits are, nobody is perfect, and everybody has faults of their own. By recognizing your faults, you will be able to try to better yourself, but you will also know when you are at fault in a bad decision.
