Introduction

Few of us are completely satisfied with the person that we have become. Most people, when truly honest with themselves, acknowledge that there is always room for improvement. While perfection is near impossible to achieve, we can do things that will help us to get closer to our best self.

How to be your best self

Being your best is easier said than done. Part of the challenge of being your best self is that the process requires a lot of thoughtful introspection and making some changes that may be uncomfortable or time consuming. Although the effort towards being your best self may be intimidating, the rewards of cultivating improvement and growth within yourself are far more rewarding.

  • Take a few minutes

Becoming your best self starts from the inside. Therefore, a productive practice is to take a few minutes in the morning (wake up 5 minutes earlier if you have to) to meditate. You can use this time to think about how you want to mentally prepare to tackle the stressors you may have to face that day or you may simply want to think about something that you want to try to do that day to become your best self.

  • Remember to take care of yourself

Being your best self also involves taking care of yourself physically. While you do not have to be a supermodel in order to be your best physically, you should do all in your power to take care of your body and to remain in good health. This includes eating right, exercising, cutting out any harmful habits like smoking or excessive drinking, etc. You cannot hope to be your best or to feel your best if you are neglecting your health.

  • Think of others

No one can successfully navigate through this life without the influences of others. While your ultimate goal may be to be your best self, you must realize that becoming your best includes giving your best to others. By being kind, going out of your way to make another's day better or simply sharing a smile, you can improve yourself in ways that would not be possible on your own. You need the help and influence of others in your life to teach you how to interact socially so that you can then use that knowledge and sensitivity to the needs of others to look outside of yourself and start caring about the needs of others.

  • You deserve the best

There is nothing wrong with loving yourself and being happy with the person that you have worked hard to become. There are those who are hesitant to take time for themselves or to pat their own back for a job well done. The truth of the matter is that there is nothing wrong with being happy with yourself. When you have lived a life that you are at peace with it is a beautiful thing. Along those same lines, it is also important to take time to do things that you enjoy doing. Long baths, reading, or taking a personal vacation can be excellent opportunities to focus on the positive, become aware of areas in your life where you can improve and motivate yourself to continue working towards your goal of becoming your best self.

  • Religion

Many people believe that the keys to being their best self lies with the teachings of their religion. Some wish to be their best selves in the hope of being rewarded for their efforts in the next life. Others believe in karma and other similar principles. Your religion can definitely be good source to look to when you are trying to prioritize the steps to becoming your best self.
