How to focus on the task at hand, no matter what

Most people have trouble focusing on the task at hand, in order to solve this problem there are several things you can try to motivate yourself to focus on what needs to be done. Your state of mind and daily life play a role in what you are able to focus on at any time. When you go to work just push everything that does not pertain to work out of your mind and think only of getting your work done. Here are a few things you can try to keep yourself focused on the work you are supposed to do.
1. Relax: If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed you will not be able to focus, so take a minute and breathe. Take several deep breaths until you feel calm.
a. Stop and think: Take a minute to sit back and think clearly about what you are doing and what you want to do and go from there. You will be more motivated to work if you have a clear head.
b. Meditate: Sit in a quiet place with no distractions and close your eyes and ears, take a deep breath in and let it back out again, clear your mind. You will find that you are able to focus on your work because you are only thinking about work.
2. Take a break: Get up and go for a walk for about 5 minutes then come back to your desk or work area and get back to work, you will be able to focus on your task if you take a break ever so often. Take a longer bathroom break, go outside and get some fresh air.

3. Refresh yourself: If you stay well hydrated you will be able to focus on your work. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times, also keep a healthy snack next to you that way you can eat if you get hungry. If you have to leave your work area several times you will lose your focus on your work.
4. Work comfortable: If you are not comfortable while you are working you are not going to focus on getting your work done, so get a comfortable chair and sit at the right height to your desk.
5. Keep it clean: If your work environment is too distracting you will not be able to focus on your work. Keep your desk or work space clean and free from trash. Keep a trash can next to your desk or work area and instead of putting your trash on the desk or floor put it in the can that way you do not have to think about picking it up later.
6. Take a shortcut: If you are using a computer, use shortcuts to get to the program you need to use. If you have to search through program files to try to find the program you need then you will lose focus on what you were trying to do.
You have to want to do something in order to focus on doing it. Plan on getting your work done before you start doing it and challenge yourself to get it done and reward yourself when you do. You will be less likely to do your work if you force yourself to get it done, so don't try too hard and you will be able to focus on your work. If you try the suggestions above, you will find yourself motivated and willing to work. Also you will feel motivated to do more than what you were originally asked to do.
