Make sure you have the right tools.
Cleaning the house is nothing to be excited about when you find out you're out of paper towels, don't have any more bathroom cleaner, or only have one trash bag left. Go to the store and get a supply of new cleaning supplies and tools. Try a new candle or mop you've been curious about and see if it gets you excited about house cleaning.
Assign chores.
It's hard to be excited about cleaning the house when you know you're going to be the only one doing it. If you have kids, roommates, a partner, or a spouse, enlist their help. Make a list of things that need to be done and then divide them up. You can make it fun for kids by turning it in to a game. For example, play "Beat the Clock" and set a timer, seeing who can finish their chores before the timer goes off.
Make it fun.
You can get excited about cleaning the house if you make it fun. Put on some music and crank it up while you clean. Music is an excellent motivator, so choose fun, upbeat music you know you'll like. Or, put in a book on tape and listen as you clean to help pass the time. Or, turn on a favorite movie or TV show to watch while you fold laundry. Listening to something you enjoy can get you more excited about cleaning the house.
Don't put it off.
Getting excited about house cleaning is difficult when you have to tackle the whole house at once. Instead of putting off all the chores until the mess is no longer bearable, do little things each day to keep the house clean. This could include bathrooms one day, picking up clutter in the family room every night before bed, and not letting the dishes pile up in the sink. Smaller, more manageable projects will make it easier to get excited about house cleaning.
This is easier when you set aside a little time at the beginning of the week to make a quick schedule of chores you'd like to accomplish each day.
Take advantage of the upcoming nice weather.
Get excited about housecleaning as the weather gets nicer by opening windows and letting the sun and breeze in. Not only will it lift your spirits and make you more cheerful and motivated while cleaning the house, but it will also air it out.
Reward yourself.
Many people find it easier to get and stay excited about things when they have something to look forward to when the goal is complete. So think of some rewards you can give yourself for completing your house cleaning. This can be a bubble bath, a new CD or DVD, or some ice cream-whatever will make you happy and keep you motivated.
