How to get excited about losing weight

Every day, thousands of people vow to get in shape and lose weight. This is a good idea for many reasons--people who are at a healthy weight are generally happier and healthier than their overweight peers.
One crucial aspect of weight loss is your frame of mind. You have to be excited and motivated to lose weight in order to stick with a diet and exercise program all the way to your goal weight. The following are some helpful tips on how to get excited about losing weight:

Write it down.
Make a list of the reasons you want to lose weight and write them down, then post them somewhere you can see them every day, like the fridge, pantry door, bathroom window, or by your computer. A few of the many reasons people want to lose weight include:
- Feel better about yourself
- Clothes fit better
- Be healthier
- More energy to play with kids, play sports, or keep up with a hobby
- Look better
These are just a few reasons. Give it some thought, and revisit your reasons frequently to get and keep you excited.
Visualize yourself at your goal weight.
Visualization can be a huge motivator when it comes to starting a weight loss program. If you're trying to get back down to a previous weight, get out old pictures are imagine yourself back at that weight. Were you happier? Did you feel better about yourself? Or, go shopping and look at clothing in the size you want to be. Imagine yourself wearing a smaller size of jeans, or a bikini, and keep that picture in mind when you start your diet program.
Reward yourself.
One way to get excited about losing weight is to set goals and make rewards for them. For example, think of something you have wanted for awhile, whether it's a massage, new pair of shoes, or something similar. Tell yourself that you can have your reward only when you reach your goal, or a mini goal (for example, if your goal is to lose 10 pounds, reward yourself after 5 pounds. Or, if your goal is to go to the gym 5 times a week, give yourself a reward after a month of reaching your goal.) These little rewards will get you excited to lose weight.
Put visual reminders everywhere.
Never underestimate the power of visual reminders! Collect quotes, pictures (of celebrities or yourself) and anything else that will remind you to stay excited about losing weight. Put these visual reminders in your kitchen, your pantry, your car, and visit them when you are tempted to blow your diet or skip the gym. Reading or looking at motivational things will help you get excited about your goals again. Some great ideas include:
- Quotes. Popular ones include, "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels," and "A minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips."
- Numbers. Write down how much exercise it will take to burn off a certain food (for example, "candy bar = 1 hour on the treadmill")
- Pictures. Put up pictures of yourself at a lower weight, or of a body you want to achieve.
Getting excited to lose weight is an important part of your weight loss journey! These are just a few things you can do to get and stay excited about losing weight.
