How to Get Motivated to be on Time

One bad habit that millions of people struggle with is being late. Many people don't think it is a big deal to be ten, twenty, even thirty minutes late to a meeting or an appointment. However, for the rest of us left sitting around it is truly one of the most annoying thing imaginable. The problem with being late is that it basically gives the impression that your time is more valuable than the time of all the other people with which you associate. This translates into suggesting that your life is worth more than theirs. The people who are late rarely think this way, but it is really what they are saying to everyone when they are significantly late to an appointment. Naturally there are some times when an emergency or other problem creates a situation where being late is quite understandable. However, in all other cases it is really a terrible social problem and something that you should be motivated to stop. If you consider how rude it is to leave someone waiting for you, you will start to see why getting the motivation to be on time is so important.

So how do you get motivated to be on time? It requires a tremendous amount of motivation to right a bad habit such as being late. Once you have taken people's feelings and time for granted for years it will seem impossible to change your behavior. However, with the proper motivation you wil find that you can do just about anything.
Start by thinking about how your behavior impacts other people. Remember a time when someone was late to some appointment and how it made you feel. Consider the self-importance of being late. Do you really want to leave the impression that you are more important or valuable than your friends and associates? If you don't want to convey this idea to your friends you will be motivated to be on time from now on.

Think about how being late affects your professional and social future. People who are chronically late are generally not well liked. They tend to loose out in business to people who are willing to be at appointments on time. In the world of business or academia a person who is late is basically a joke. Being on time is just the most basic ettiquete for descent business activity. Being on time does not guarantee that you will make a good deal or get a good grade, but if you do not arrive on time you will certainly struggle to succeed at all. If you are serious about work, school, or your social life you will get motivated to change your behavior.

As you start to arrive to appointments on time and your social and business life starts to go more smoothly you will be more and more motivated to be on time. Your friends and family will start to notice the improvements in your behavior and they will applaude you for it. As you feel more responsible as a person and business associate you will become increasingly motivated. Once you have experienced life on time you will not want to go back to being late. In a sense you will be sending a message to yourself that says you are serious about your life and success. This will make you feel better about yourself and your accomplishments. If you struggle to continue to be on time think seriously about your motivation. Ask for help from friends and family and you will accomplish your goal.
