How to get motivated to excel, no matter what you do

Some people have a very difficult time finding the motivation to accomplish a goal. There are those who have a knack for excelling, and then the majority of us who need an extra boost of motivation to get us through the day. Having the motivation to excel is something that can be very personal for each of us. We all have unique situations and our own reasons for wanting to get ahead in life. What may motivate one person may not even affect another person's view. Before anything else you need to decide if you really want to do what it takes to excel. If you are complacent about wanting to excel then you will have a very hard time becoming motivated.

Have a positive attitude - Even the most motivated people fall short of their goals from time to time. But it is the truly motivated individual who keeps trying. `Motivation to excel no matter what' could easily be used to describe the term determination. Often times motivation and determination can be the same thing. When you are determined that nothing is going to get in the way of your goals you are fully motivated. Many times it is our attitudes that end up being the most difficult things to control, not the outcome of a situation. Even if you have not accomplished your goal despite multiple tries, with a good attitude you are better off because of the experience.

Make a plan - It is difficult to stay motivated to see a lengthy project through to the end unless you have a plan to follow. When you set a goal you should also set check points that you can use to help yourself regain focus. For example, if you want to stay motivated to buy a house next year, you need to have regular goals that you aim to meet every month. Such a goal would be to pay off all the bills and be able to contribute $100 to a fund that will be used for a down payment. When you accumulate small goals instead of tackling one huge goals, you are more likely to stay on track and to have the outcome that you have hoped for.

Hold yourself accountable - Different people are motivated differently. Some need others to help them accomplish their goals while others can just make their minds up that they want to do something and then they do it! Because being motivated to excel is generally something that will only benefit you, you have to take some personal accountability in the matter. You have to prove to yourself that you want to alter the way you spend your day or the way that you see yourself. If you really want to excel you have to act by buckling down and just doing it. Ultimately you will have to find your own motivation within yourself, but remember that with every sacrifice comes a reward.

If not for yourself, do it for others - It can be very rewarding to stay at a job or at a particular stage in your life that you may not be particularly crazy about if it means making those you love happy. Many family bread-winners find satisfaction in their otherwise stagnant jobs because working towards excelling means providing for the needs of a spouse and children. If you cannot find personal motivation to accomplish a goal, perhaps it is easier to consider the other benefactors of your desire to excel.

If at first you don't succeed... - Plan to fail again. Failure is a natural part of excelling. Any successful person will tell you that there were stumbling blocks along the way. Plan for the times when you think you might quit. You know yourself well enough to be able to prepare ahead of time for when you get discouraged.
