Here are some steps you can take to make sure that you are motivated to feel good mentally, spiritually and emotionally.

1. Analyze what is important to you - personal inventory. One of the most important things about motivation is having a starting point and moving forward. There are many things that have happened in the past and there are many decisions we have made that cannot be changed today, so we shouldn't let them decide everything about our current lives. It is important to understand what you have (or don't have) in your life that is most important to you. One of the best ways to do this is to just sit down and think about it for a while. You might call it a personal inventory of interview. Find a spot where you can be undisturbed for quite a while, grab a pen and paper, and try and clear your mind of any thoughts. Then think of things that are important to you. There will be many things that will cross your mind so write them down until you have found something that you get emotional about. When you reach this point, try and understand why this particular thing is so important to you and write as much about it as you can. This will establish the focus you need to have to achieve the things you want in your life. You will be able to do so much more in life if you are doing it for a reason and if the reason is deeply rooted in your character.
2. Decide what you want out of life - set a goal. It is also important to have a direction when you are going about your life. If you don't care where you end up, then there is no reason to pay attention to where you are headed. When you have a goal, you have a destination and your actions and movements will be determined, at least in part, by the objective you have. Knowing where you want to go makes the path to get there often much clearer.
3. Make a plan to do something - action. Having a map to where you want to go is not enough to arrive there. You have to be making progress toward your goal so that you will one day be able to accomplish what you want. Sometimes people lose focus and forget that they have a map or are discouraged by the distance they have traveled compared to the distance left to go. If this ever happens to you, just repeat step one and you will find renewed vigor to eventually reach your destination.
